An inspiring story of one runner's adventure in 2006, April 26, 2010
This review is from: See Dane Run (Paperback)
I couldn't help but enjoy reading about Fiddy2. As a runner myself (although I've fallen off of late) I enjoyed every bit of his tale of 52 marathons. I am not too sure if a non runner would enjoy this book, though, as although it is inspirational it certainly would not appeal to most who have not ran a marathon and experienced the ups and downs that the runner will invariably go through each and every time. Having run 17 marathons and 50ks I can say without a doubt that I went through many of the ups and downs Dane went through and couldn't help but laugh along with him. For a runner I think this would be an inspirational book because of the underlying message of not only the book but of his running mentality, that of never knowing what you can't do until you try to do it. 52 marathons in 52 weekends? Sure... 202 mile relay by himself? Sure...
As a side not I followed Fiddy2 ever since the SF marathon of 2006, my first marathon ever and where I first heard about what Dane was doing. I sub sequentially followed his blog and re-read the entries that I had missed. See Dane Run oftentimes reads and feels exactly like his blog. Although this could be a detriment I found that having read the Fiddy2 blog in 2006 that enough time has passed that reading See Dane Run was still worth reading as he does throw in anecdotes throughout to spruce up the reading and make it a little more interesting.
One interesting fact is in comparing See Dane Run to Karnazes' 50/50. Both took on a strenuous undertaking on their bodies and defied the odds. Even more so they proved many a person wrong with the thought that that much running would be detrimental to the legs and they would ultimately get slower. Both, in fact, increased their times the closer they got to their goal, which showed that if you take care of yourself and train properly than running in and of itself is not bad for the body.
The fact that I haven't ran a marathon since last November, nor ran much for that matter, and after reading See Dane Run I wanted to go out and run another marathon is enough for me to feel inspired, which is enough for me to recommend this to any and all runners.
4.5 stars.

Good Book, But Not on the Kindle, April 3, 2010
Dane's accomplishment is amazing. His writing, what I could read of it, was excellent. Unfortunately, the atrocious formatting on the Kindle made this book essentially unreadable. I found paragraphs rearranged and some sentences misplaced.

Great book!, October 22, 2011
This review is from: See Dane Run (Paperback)
Dean's year-long adventure not only shows what is possible, but it inspires all who read it to greater things. With understated modesty, Dean describes his adventure in a way that both runners and non-runners can relate to. Would recommend the book to anyone wanting to get a glimpse into a higher level of achievement.
