Book Description

May 1, 2001
Up-and-coming author Ian Philips cages some of his favorite pieces in this bestiary of "literary filth." Whether it's the tale of the televangelist who meets his match in Hell or the gay moralist who finds the man of his dreams at a circuit party or the skater boy who's seduced by a Whitman-quoting Bear or the Black leatherdaddy with a secret fondness for the color khaki or the Long Island housewife who beats the Devil at his own game, there is definitely something in this collection of literotica to arouse anyone who is queer in the head.

About the Author

Ian Philips is a flaming son of Sodom and a gentleman sadist who lives--until he's evicted--in that Suburb-by-the-Sea formerly known as San Francisco. He's peddled his literary wares from Best Gay Erotica and Best Transgender Erotica to Bitch Goddess and asspants. He's currently at work on a novel, The Absolutely Final Temptation of St. Anthony, and a second collection of literotica called Satyriasis.

5.0 out of 5 stars Petronius, move over, May 24, 2001

This review is from: See Dick Deconstruct: Literotica for the Satirically Bent (Paperback)
If I were stuck on a desert island (or in, say, Provincetown) with only one book of erotica, _See Dick Deconstruct_ would be it.

Philips' writing is smart, hot, and very, very funny. No one escapes his righteous wrath: circuit queens, leather daddies, transgender warriors, televangelists, skater punks, pomo-homo academics--even the Devil himself. They're all here, in glorious technocolor (and in various states of undress).

_See Dick Deconstruct_ fills a much-neglected literary niche--one-handed reading for the hopelessly erudite. This is writing that takes seriously the idea that the brain is the largest sex organ. But even if you don't get hot and bothered over French lit crit or Latin love poetry, you will get caught up in the sheer force of Philips' prose, his marvelously developed characters, and his wicked sense of humor. Not to mention the copious raunchy sex.

What's more, Philips is not afraid of four-letter words, like L-O-V-E. Hidden among the satiric barbs is some genuine romance, a tender sweetness that reminds us that piggy sex is grand, but piggy sex with someone you love is, well, what most of us are looking for, gay or straight.

If this what Philips is offering as a debut, what can we expect in 5 or 10 years? Gay literati, look out: there's a new luminary in your midst and he is taking notes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smart, Tasty, and Raunchy, June 23, 2004

This review is from: See Dick Deconstruct: Literotica for the Satirically Bent (Paperback)
Wow! I'd read some of Philips' stories in the past in different anthologies such as the Best Gay Erotica series so I knew what I might expect. I purchased his second collection, Satyriasis, first, and devoured it in days. Should have bought them at the same time! I ran out and got his first, See Dick Deconstruct, the same day I finished Satyriasis. Both of these collections rock! He's a fantastic storyteller, weaving amazing characters, locations, themes, and a glorious array of sexual appetites, into something far more than powerful than any other erotic writer I've ever read. This is biting, smart satire, all wrapped up in tasty, raunchy fun. Get both collections!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bedside reading for the Mensa set, June 10, 2002

This review is from: See Dick Deconstruct: Literotica for the Satirically Bent (Paperback)
The stories in this book are like nothing I have ever read. Philips writes scathing, often hilarious satire using the structure and sensibility of erotica. He gleefully rips the teats off quite a few sacred cows, but in an arousing way. Some of the stories contained in this volume are hysterical; others are sexually white-hot; yet others are terrifying. All share the same linguistic precision, the same erudition. It's quite a feat. This book is a work of genius, and deserves as wide an audience as possible.
