Tim Reynolds performs a Masterpiece,
By Chad M Flood (Lewisburg, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: See Into Your Soul (Audio CD)
I'll start out by being totally honest with you and saying that I know of Tim Reynolds through my dedication to the Dave Matthews Band. Tim has been a staple with that group for many years, and by no means do I discredit him as a solo artist; I just found out about him through DMB. Regarding "See Into Your Soul", I must say my first listen to songs from it was not in a recorded format, but rather a live acoustic performance that Timmy performed at my school. I sat third row, the product of being 5th in line for tickets, and the experience was among the most profound in my extensive concert going career. Upon purchasing his latest effort, I was taken aback by how utterly amazing each track on the disc was. I have never heard an instrumental album that spoke to me the way this one did. It was as if the guitar was offering vocals and Tim was the one making the music himself. Tracks like "Hopeful Heresy" and "To Touch Yearning" were familiar to me based on Tim's performances with Dave Matthews, but the rest of the album proves that a single acoustic guitar, with the occasional sound effect, is capable of making one of the most eclectic mixes of music I have heard. I recommend this album to anyone who either plays guitar or just appreciates music.

Tim Reynolds Is A Master Musician,

If anyone would like to learn how to play the acoustic guitar, pick up "See Into Your Soul" by Tim Reynolds. He is definitely one of the top 10 acoustic guitar players of all time. I really do believe that, not just because I'm a fan but because of the way he plays and the melodies he comes up with in his head. Highlights include "See Into Your Soul", "Jemez Rolling Waves", "Open Up, Let It In" (the CD's best track), and "Yak". If you liked "Live at Luther College" with Dave Matthews you will love this CD!

you wanted acoustic...,

Well after reading other reviews in here, it seems like people have been disapointed after buying Tim's electric cd's because they were looking for the acoustic guitar playing they were used to hearing from Tim. Personally I love everything that Tim does. This cd is very good. Half is pure solo acoustic guitar while the other half uses effects and over-dubs. I highly recomend any Tim Reynolds cd to anyone because I truely consider him to be one of this worlds top musicians. For those of you looking for songs you may have heard played on "Dave and Tim shows" This cd has a few that were played on the 1999 tour. If you like Tim's acoustic playing try to find "Gossip of the Neurons" and look for "Stream" to be re-issued in fall 2000.

This CD is awesome -- the guy has amazing talent. If you love to hear an individual that really has God-given talent and is his own man, then buy this CD. He writes the majority of his songs; all instrumental, but fascinating. I have seen him in concert (solo) and was even more blown away. He does not get the credit that he deserves.

Half good and half God-awful,

There are 14 tracks on this album. Seven of which are beautiful, wistful acoustic melodies which will sweep you away...if you're into that. The other seven are I suppose what one would call "trance." Very experimental and by no means easy to listen to. I would get it just for the acoustic half though. It's worth it for that.

This CD is yet another example of Tim Reynolds' amazingly intricate and beautiful acoustic guitar work. The incredibly natural, free-flowing expressiveness he possesses is shown once again. This compilation of soothing yet unpredictable tracks is truly food for the soul.

Just being honest,

I really enjoy the acoustic songs on this album. Although they are not technically perfect they speak of his good sense of style and mood. I don't think a comparison to any other artist is necessary, or beneficial... if you want people to listen to leo kottke it's not going to help by bashing something else they might find interesting... people aren't looking at timmy reynolds cd's on amazon.com because they think he's a mediocre talent.... the other songs on the cd are kind of weird, not very listenable.

Tim Reynolds re-defines the term acoustic playing. I have been fortunate enough to see him live 3 times, and this album brings across the depth of his playing. Van-Halen, Hendricks, Clapton, Van Morrison. . .Tim Reynolds could keep up with all of these guys. If you enjoy the acoustic guitar I would tell you to buy this CD. Also, "Gossip of the Neurons" is Tims other acoustic Album. FANTASTIC! Tim is one of the best guitar players I have ever heard, but don't take my word for it....listen to him.

Acoustic Stuff is amazing, but the new age stuff is horrible,
By Nicholas B. Cammarano (Lewisburg, Pennsylvania USA) - See all my reviews

Stay clear of tracks like "yak" and "Singular obsession." They are the new age synthesizer stuff. Otherwise, the other acoustic tracks are amazing. If you like his skills with the Martin, buy this cd.
