5.0 out of 5 stars Fast-paced and exciting!
This is the second book I have read by this author. This one is much better than the other (earlier) work. It is a frightening mystery with many plot twist and turns - with only a few predictable patches. It twists down to a satisfying end leaving the reader satiated.

I would recommend to anyone!

4.0 out of 5 stars This book was great with a surprised ending, June 17, 2004
This review is from: See Jane Die (Mira) (Hardcover)
Okay- I admit it, I read the ending, and thought I knew the "best part" of the book, but was I surprised
when I read the ending after reading the entire book that it was different than what I expected.

Jane and her sister Stacey have been involved in a boating accident. They were playing hookie from school and Stacey dared
Jane to go swimming and a boater "ran" over Jane and disfigured her terribly. After years of operations and therapy Jane gets her life together. Stacey becomes a policewoman.

Jane's husband is being charged with murder of his patients from his plastic surgurey practice and Jane tries to prove him innocent with the help of her sister.

This book keeps you guess until the end.

I recommend it highly.

Ellen

4.0 out of 5 stars Top notch thriller, April 18, 2006
By
This review is from: See Jane Die (Mass Market Paperback)
Jane Killian survived a horrific boating accident at age 15 that left her disfigured with the feeling that the driver meant to hit her. At 32, after many successful surgeries, a budding career as an artist, a marriage to a successful plastic surgeon, and a baby on the way, Jane still has nightmares of that horrible day that left her always feeling inadequate, wondering if somehow something horrible is about to happen to her to ruin her "happily ever after."

When husband Ian is implicated in the murder of a woman in a hotel room, and subsequently arrested, Jane stands by her man, despite the efforts of Stacy, her detective sister to listen to reason and not her heart. As more bodies pile up, possibly to mask the first killing, Ian is looking more guilty, and Jane starts to question his fidelity, which the police believe is the motive.

Stacy also carries scars from that fateful day 17 years earlier. After all, it is she who egged who sister on to get into the water, putting her in the path of the boat. And since her accident, the family was fractured, laying blame on Stacy, who has grown to resent Jane (particularly since she dated Ian before he met and fell for Jane). Then Stacy's self esteem rises as she enters into an affair with her sexy partner Mac.

Then Jane receives a note, possibly from the driver of the boat: I did it on purpose to hear you scream. She is convinced that the boat driver is behind the violence - if only she could get someone to believe her. Could Ian be innocent? Or did he marry her for her $20 million inheritance?

Spindler keeps you on the edge of your seat - just when you are convinced you know who is the culprit, along comes another possible baddie. The reader will want so badly for put-upon Jane to have her happily ever after, but at what cost? The identity of the killer is a huge surprise twist - and well worth the wait to the end.

A fast-paced enjoyable read with many twists. Not Ms Spindler's best, IMO, but entertaining just the same.

4.0 out of 5 stars engrossing read, September 19, 2004

This review is from: See Jane Die (Mira) (Hardcover)
Seventeen years ago on a dare by her half-sister Stacy, Jane Killian went swimming on a bright sunny day in frigid Lake Ray Hubbard. While swimming, a boat heads directly for her, hitting her and changing her life forever. Fast-forward to the present, after many surgeries later, she is a renowned artist, happily married for a year to a plastic surgeon, pregnant and rich due to an inheritance from her grandmother. Her seemingly idyllic life is about to be shattered when her husband is arrested for a string of murders. Jane starts to receive anonymous notes relating to her long ago accident. The boater is out there and wants to finish the job he started. Jane seeks help from her estranged sister Stacy in clearing her husband and finding her tormentor.

This is the first book by Erica Spindler that I have read. I really enjoyed it. It was very suspenseful and quick reading. I liked that the story flowed well without too many red herrings trying to lead you down false paths. The characterization was very good. A surprise twist at the end made this a worthwhile read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining Suspense, December 4, 2007
This review is from: See Jane Die (Mass Market Paperback)
I read this book after reading The Last Known Victim by Erica Spindler. While reading that one, I realized that it was a continuation from two previous books, See Jane Die and Killer Takes All. I enjoyed The Last Known Victim, so I decided to read the other two.

See Jane Die is entertaining and full of suspense. The ending was a surprise twist, and I had only partially figured it out. Erica Spindler excels at leading the reader down the wrong path very convincingly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Twist at the End, August 23, 2006
This review is from: See Jane Die (Mass Market Paperback)
I've enjoyed Erica Spindler's books in the past but they always seemed predictable to me. That dropped her from the top of my favorite authors list. Don't get me wrong, she's definitely on the list, just not at the top. With the new releases of some of the writers higher on this list, it's been awhile since I've read anything Spindler has written. Last week I picked up a copy of SEE JANE DIE and became absorbed. After I finished, I moved her up on that favorite authors list.

SEE JANE DIE depicts the life of Jane Killian. Jane's teenage years were wonderful until a tragic day at the lake when she was run over by a boat while playing hooky from school with her older sister, Stacy (this scene was depicted in the opening of the book). The accident almost killed Jane but she persevered and after numerous surgeries, her face was reconstructed and she could live a normal life. However, Stacy never really recovered from the guilt associated with the disaster and their relationship was never the same.

Now as an adult, Jane has it all. She's a successful artist, married to a plastic surgeon, is expecting her first child, and is just blissfully happy. This perfect life comes crashing down around Jane when her husband, Ian, is accused of murdering one of his patients. He's arrested when his office manager turns up dead and he's linked to both murders.

As Ian is in jail, Jane begins to be stalked - seems the mysterious boater from her youth has returned - since he got away with the accident, his identity was never known so the police don't know where to find him. His notes to her say things like, "I did it on purpose. To hear your screams." Now he seems to be back to finish killing her and no one is there to protect her.

The plot is excellent, but a few of the scenes are a bit over-the-top. For instance, Jane always seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time - she's the one who finds the office manager dead in her home, she's the one who finds other bodies. You'd think coincidence is her middle name and anyone else would not go out alone if dead bodies kept popping up. That part was farfetched to me.

The character development was also excellent. All characters were wonderfully developed and the reader feels as if he/she is a part of the group. Dave, the childhood friend, is perfect in the role of supporter of the two sisters. Stacy is feisty, honest and a good cop. Jane's agony is definitely felt by the reader. Ian is a bit of a jerk, but that's exactly how he was supposed to come across. Even Ranger, Jane's dog, is developed to the point that the reader thinks of him as part of the family.

The villain is predictable and was not a surprise. What was a surprise was how the villain came to the point of killing the women and terrorizing Jane. Accomplices were also interesting and not expected until a few pages before the revelation. It was definitely a highlight of the book.

For serious suspense/mystery buffs, this may be a bit too romantic for you. For those wanting a nice blend of romance and mystery, it's a perfect book to add to your Must Read list. I found it very enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stay Away From Her Website, July 2, 2005
This review is from: See Jane Die (Mass Market Paperback)
During a break from reading towards the end of the book, I checked out Ms. Spindler's website for a bit more info on her next book...and by the time I finished reading the blurb about it, I knew exactly what was going to happen in this book. Had I not done that, I would've been totally shocked by the ending.

Erica Spindler is one of the best suspense writers today, and this book is one of her better ones. Don't miss it!

4.0 out of 5 stars This is not a ROMANTIC suspense, August 19, 2004
This review is from: See Jane Die (Mira) (Hardcover)
Do not confuse this book with other Erica Spindler books. It is not a romance. It is suspenseful and does surprise you at the end. Even when you think you know what's going to happen, she puts a good spin on it. It was suspenseful and did keep me reading, but if you are looking for a ROMANTIC suspense, you will be disappointed with "See Jane Die." ALso, try to avoid reading the discription of this book on the back. It gives too much away and you know exactly what is going to happen. All in all it was a good read.
