Fast-paced and exciting!, August 21, 2004
This is the second book I have read by this author. This one is much better than the other (earlier) work. It is a frightening mystery with many plot twist and turns - with only a few predictable patches. It twists down to a satisfying end leaving the reader satiated.
I would recommend to anyone!

This book was great with a surprised ending, June 17, 2004
Okay- I admit it, I read the ending, and thought I knew the "best part" of the book, but was I surprised
when I read the ending after reading the entire book that it was different than what I expected.
Jane and her sister Stacey have been involved in a boating accident. They were playing hookie from school and Stacey dared
Jane to go swimming and a boater "ran" over Jane and disfigured her terribly. After years of operations and therapy Jane gets her life together. Stacey becomes a policewoman.
Jane's husband is being charged with murder of his patients from his plastic surgurey practice and Jane tries to prove him innocent with the help of her sister.
This book keeps you guess until the end.
I recommend it highly.

Top notch thriller, April 18, 2006
Jane Killian survived a horrific boating accident at age 15 that left her disfigured with the feeling that the driver meant to hit her. At 32, after many successful surgeries, a budding career as an artist, a marriage to a successful plastic surgeon, and a baby on the way, Jane still has nightmares of that horrible day that left her always feeling inadequate, wondering if somehow something horrible is about to happen to her to ruin her "happily ever after."
When husband Ian is implicated in the murder of a woman in a hotel room, and subsequently arrested, Jane stands by her man, despite the efforts of Stacy, her detective sister to listen to reason and not her heart. As more bodies pile up, possibly to mask the first killing, Ian is looking more guilty, and Jane starts to question his fidelity, which the police believe is the motive.
Stacy also carries scars from that fateful day 17 years earlier. After all, it is she who egged who sister on to get into the water, putting her in the path of the boat. And since her accident, the family was fractured, laying blame on Stacy, who has grown to resent Jane (particularly since she dated Ian before he met and fell for Jane). Then Stacy's self esteem rises as she enters into an affair with her sexy partner Mac.
Then Jane receives a note, possibly from the driver of the boat: I did it on purpose to hear you scream. She is convinced that the boat driver is behind the violence - if only she could get someone to believe her. Could Ian be innocent? Or did he marry her for her $20 million inheritance?
Spindler keeps you on the edge of your seat - just when you are convinced you know who is the culprit, along comes another possible baddie. The reader will want so badly for put-upon Jane to have her happily ever after, but at what cost? The identity of the killer is a huge surprise twist - and well worth the wait to the end.
