5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant blues-rock album
The Jeff Healey Band have a winner with this album. 14 years later and it is still as fresh sounding as ever. And of course, it contains the wonderful hit "Angel Eyes". 3.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat Dissapointing
The first Jeff Healey album I heard was Mess of Blues which I enjoyed. This album is pretty good rock but not the kind of blues Healey was known for.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant blues-rock album, February 16, 2001
This review is from: See the Light (Audio CD)
The Jeff Healey Band have a winner with this album. 14 years later and it is still as fresh sounding as ever. And of course, it contains the wonderful hit "Angel Eyes". Jeff Healey is one of the best guitarists ever...he has been called "another Hendrix", "a marvel of speed" and "a guitar wizard" all of which are true. And he has a unique way of playing his guitar...being blind, he found it more comfortable to play it sitting, with the guitar flat on his lap. As he says in the liner notes, he can use all five of his left-hand fingers for different types of vibrato. And he does a lot of bending with his thumb and uses it to hit notes above and beyond where you can normally reach. If you love blues-rock ala Clapton or Stevie Ray Vaughn, then you will love Jeff Healey.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Album is Beyond Belief, January 25, 2005
This review is from: See the Light (Audio CD)
I am 60 and have been listening to music since doowop in the 50s. Running across Jeff Healey in "Roadhouse" was a revelation. I just loved that music & recently ordered 3 JH CDS, all very good, but this is BEYOND belief. Every track is stellar. If I look with all my might for flaws, I cant find any. What a talent! Some people are handicapped, by their infirmity, not JEFF, he's unbeleivably great & this album proves it. I have nothing more to add that hasnt been said already by the other reviewers. Get this album, then you can die. Page, Clapton, Hendrix all must step aside for Jeff Healey. All Hail!

5.0 out of 5 stars Shame On Radio, April 12, 2004
This review is from: See the Light (Audio CD)
Forget this man lays his guitar on his lap and CREATED this style of playing the electric guitar. I know of no other guitar player or have heard of one in the world who plays his electric guitar laying across his lap(If there is, please enlighten me). Forget he's blind. Forget he plays with 2 talented, underrated musicians(a bass player and a drummer - a 3 piece).
Just listen to this music with your eyes closed and if you can't hear and believe this is some of the best music ever written(to be compared with Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page), you don't have a good ear for music. This cd has it all. Great lyrics, great hooks, great arranging, and timeless music that will stand the test of time, like "the Beatles". Why the "Radio World" stopped playing his music is beyond me. Buy this cd!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic! Incredible! Amazing! Absolute Best!, December 10, 1999
This review is from: See the Light (Audio CD)
Believe it or not, I just recently discovered this CD. Never, I mean never have I been so impressed with an artist and a CD as I have with Jeff Healey / See The Light ... and I've been listening to rock music since the 60s. I've played it over and over, and the 200th time is just as impressive and exciting as the 1st. Then there's the title track ... it'll blow you away! Jeff's style of blues is the best I've ever heard. He plays them like they're meant to be played. This is a MUST HAVE for any blues / rock fan. Don't hesitate, just get it! No disappointments, guaranteed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for a party of just two, September 29, 1999
This review is from: See the Light (Audio CD)
Get romantic with the sublime "Angel Eyes". Get slinky with "River of No Return" and playful with "Don't Let Your Chance Go By". Heck, get downright nasty with "Confidence Man"-- just make sure you brush up on your French-toast skills before purchasing this CD, because you *will* end up serving your beloved breakfast the next morning.

In all seriousness, this is an astounding album. Whether Jeff Healey is Jimi reincarnated I leave to the experts, but this is terrific country-fried rock for people (like me) who aren't crazy about country.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Debut Proves How Disabilities Can Be Overcome, January 29, 2005
This review is from: See the Light (Audio CD)
Blind guitar hero Jeff Healey's debut album, SEE THE LIGHT, is a great debut which proves that a handicap doesn't have to be a handicap. Healey's guitar work is hot, recalling Duane Allman, Dickey Betts, Johnny Winter, and Billy Gibbons, and his rhythm section of bassist Joe Rockman and drummer Tom Stephen is one of the tightest since Double Trouble. He does a great job with the rocker "Confidence Man", and his version of "Angel Eyes" is actually better than John Hiatt's exceptional original. Unlike some blues singers, Healey knows not to overemote, making this the best white blues debut since TEXAS FLOOD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blues rock done right, October 27, 2002
This review is from: See the Light (Audio CD)
Jeff Healey was only really well-known for a few years in the fickle popular music landscape, which is a shame. This first album of his has always been a great one in the realm of blues rock.

"Confidence Man", "River Of No Return", and "I Need To Be Loved" are all bluesy highlights. "Nice Problem To Have" is a great, mellow instrumental, while "Hideaway" is a catchier, more up-tempo instrumental. "Angel Eyes", a top 10 hit, is a great romantic ballad on the album. "Blue Jean Blues" is moody yet melody-laced, while the title track is a catchy rocker of sorts to end this great album.

It is not a stretch to compare this album to efforts by Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughn, as other reviewers have done. Kenny Wayne Sheppard also comes to mind a bit, although he is a bit heavier overall. As anyone who knows anything about music knows, the blues is the basis for so many of the best elements of rock and roll music. For sure, they blend exceptionally well on an album like this. This is an overlooked gem, worthy of note for more than the one well-known hit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thanks for the Music, March 3, 2008

Jeff never failed to excite the crowd, wether playing his blistering style of blues/rock or his wonderful jazz. I have seen Jeff play both on a number of occassions throughout his career. We, the music public have lost a great musician, the Healey family has lost a precious member of their family.
His music and memory will last forever. Thank you Jeff!!!!!
Rest In Peace.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jeff Healey, you'll be misssed, March 2, 2008
This review is from: See the Light (Audio CD)
Despite its release almost 20 years ago, this album is still one of my all-time favourites. I was lucky enough to see Jeff play in Oshawa on a regular basis, before he was really famous, and I remember him as being incredibly talented, self-confident, and friendly. I feel such a sense of loss now that he's died of cancer... I'll miss all the music he didn't get to make, and will really treasure the albums that remain. My condolences to Jeff's family, and all the people who loved him.
