Another Amazing Cd from Mr. Weiskopf,
By Richie Angelilli (Bronx, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: See The Pyramid (Audio CD)
The only thing better than a new Walt Weiskopf record is seeing Mr. Weiskopf live.I may be biased on the fact that Mr. Weiskopf could play almost anything and I'd love it but, this record is absolutely beautiful. Backed by a fantastic rhythm section of Mr Peter Zak (piano) Mr Doug Weiss (bass) and Mr Quincy Davis (drums) they seem to be floating on air as they drive through the 10 songs on the record. Mr Weiskopf is not only a MONSTER tenor sax player, but he is just as amazing arranger and composer. This cd has been in my car for the last 2 months and each time I listen to it I change my mind which song is my favorite. I am more and more impressed by Mr Zak on each cd I hear him on. Mr Weiskopf is on Mr Zak's recent SteepleChase release "The Decider" which I highly recommend. Mr Zak's playing on "See The Pyramid " is beautiful. Mr Weiss keeps a steady bass throughout the cd while Mr Quincy Davis drives the beat home on each track in particular on "Hook Me Up" which is drumming is amazing. Sometimes I cant decide if I enjoy the burners or the ballads more from Mr Weiskopf but he has an equal mix of each on the cd. The ballads I love on the cd are "Goodbye John" and "Little Minor Love Song" while my favorite burner is " A Time For Love." My favorite track on the cd as of today is "Marcieana" which Mr Weiskopf just KILLS on. If you love Mr Weiskopf's playing I highly recommend the following cd's he is on: Phil Palombi: 80 East, SteepleChase Jam session Vol 18 is just killer and the new release from Peter Zak on Steeplechase, "The Decider" as well as Mr Weiskopf's own cd's: "Day In, Night Out, "Siren", and "Simplicity." Do yourself a favor, if you enjoy Mr Weiskopf's playing I highly recommend you check him out live. He is playing on September 24-25, 2010 at Smalls Jazz Club 183 West 10th Street NYC,NY with Peter Zak (p) Paul Gill (bass) and Quincy Davis (drums) should be killer and all for $20.00, that's for the whole night not just 1 set. I can not recommend enough this cd as a great listening experience.

Another Good Jazz CD from Walt Weiskopf,
By
This review is from: See The Pyramid (Audio CD)
Walt Weiskopf is a top notch tenor sax player and a top notch band leader. This is great jazz quartet music. If you like straight-ahead jazz, listen to the samples and then buy it. If you are interested in learning about jazz, this is also a good place to start.
