Editorial Reviews

Review

Dogs and more dogs are everywhere. Running, sliding, jumping, splashing and having fun. The simple text consists mostly of sight words familiar to the beginning reader.  The pen and ink, acrylic ink, and colored pencil illustrations add to the uproarious mood and are essential for a complete understanding of the story.
ALA

In addition to receiving the Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor, See Me run was a Junior Library Guild Fall 2011 Selection.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a fun, high interest book for the new reader! January 23, 2012
Format:Hardcover
A shaggy yellow dog began to run across a field. when he looked behind, several wide-eyed dogs were chasing him. "See them come. / They come and come. / Will they get me? / No, no, no! / We go and go." There were all kinds of dogs chasing behind him as they ran around a bend in a stream. There was a Dalmatian, a beagle, a bulldog, and dogs of all descriptions. Longhaired, short, large, and small they were determined to catch up with the shaggy yellow dog.

All of a sudden, the shaggy yellow dog stopped in front of a BIG mud hole. Plop! The all joined him as he splashed around. "It is mud. / Splat-splat. / Mud is fun." They rolled and and jumped in the mud as they enjoyed themselves. The dogs needed baths after their romp. The shaggy yellow dog and his friends were having a lot of fun. What would they do next?

This is a fun, high interest book for the new reader. Emergent or newly independent readers will love this action-oriented book as the dogs race through its pages. The repetitive text and easily decipherable words will motivate the young reader to complete the book using their decoding strategies. The artwork has a great fun factor and very amusing. For example, one of my favorite scenes is when all the dogs are rolling and romping in a humongous mud hole. When they find the bones of a T-Rex, the action definitely picks up. This is an excellent choice for the beginning reader.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's giving my son confidence November 12, 2012
Format:Hardcover
I just read a review by a previous poster who called this book stupid. To this I say, "You have clearly never had a child who struggled to learn to read." My son is struggling. When I ask him to read he cries. He is so frustrated. This book gives him confidence. The words are simple. The story is mostly told through pictures. But there is a story unlike other beginning readers. It is not too hard to read like other "easy" readers. Finishing this book gives him a huge sense of accomplishment. It is at my son's level, the pictures are entertaining, and he thinks it's funny. We read it again and again. I love this book because my son loves this book. Does the repetition make me want to gouge my eyes out? Only a little bit. I think this series (I Like to Read) is groundbreaking and have already recommended it to several friends with beginning and struggling readers. I can't recommend it highly enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best New Kids Book! February 2, 2012
Format:Hardcover
While at the local library with our reading therapy dog program, the librarian showed us See Me Run! The kids all wanted to read it again and again. It's a great beginning reader with three and four-letter words to help build confidence. The illustrations are sure to make kids smile. There are more than 15 dogs of various sizes, shapes, and colors on each page running, swimming, and covered in mud. The kids love to pick out which dogs in the book look like the various reading dogs in the library. When we put several dogs on a table, most of the kids will pick See Me Run! This couldn't be better for early readers! Highly recommended!!
