From the Actor

Hi, I'm Dave DeWitt and they call me "The Pope of Peppers." It was a blast to write, co-produce, and star in the first-ever documentary on chile peppers. We tried to make it as entertaining as possible, so you may find yourself laughing (I hope). Please see the other two volumes in this set of "Heat Up Your Life," and please note my books on chiles for sale at amazon.com.

Product Description

Host Dave DeWitt follows the incredible path of how chile peppers start as seed and end up spicing the plates of people around the world. During this hilarious and suprising journey, Episode Two of "Heat Up Your Life!" features: A relentless quest for the holy grail of hot & spicy takes our host from the swamp people of south Florida, to the Rednecks of Ruskin, to the jungle backyard of Tahiti Joe. Finally, he locates the elusive chile pepper shrine during a very suprising encounter at the Hog's Breath Saloon of Key West! The colorful markets of Oaxaca, Mexico, where mole, a strange and delicious mixture of chile, chocolate, and herbs, is piled high and sold to locals. A molino or mill is visited where custom mole recipes are made to order. Chile varieties, gardening hints, and horticultural practices. A very wise 10-year-old chile roaster gives Dave tips on how best to prepare fresh chile peppers after gathering the hot and spicy from New Mexico fields. Islander David Brown takes our host to see the incredible 12 foot high kitchen pepper plant on the Caribbean jewel of Jamaica. A visit to historic Avery Island, Louisiana, reveals the ancestral home of the world famous Tabasco Sauce. Tour the antebellum plantation with Paul McIlhenny whose great, great grandfather started the company in the 1860's. See how tabasco peppers are grown, processed in oak casks, and then sent to markets around the globe. Chile expert Jose Marmalejo explains the intricacies of dried chile peppers at the La Merced Market in Mexico City. Learn about an entire family of dried, smoked chiles, known as chipotle, and how different woods and pepper types result in a spectrum of delightful aromas.

All this and more in the second episode of Heat Up Your Life! -- The ultimate chile pepper experience.
