Book Description

*** BESTSELLER in Vegetable Gardening ***

Most keen gardeners decide at some stage that they want to save their own seed. Raising your own seedlings is extremely satisfying. I still find it so exciting and heart-warming when I grow beautiful, healthy plants from seed that I have collected myself. Watching a seed germinate, become a seedling, and then mature gives me such joy and deep satisfaction. It is witnessing and participating in the miracle of life!

I want to share with you how to save yourself a small fortune by collecting your own seeds and saving them for the next gardening season. This is a guide to getting the best results when saving your own seeds.

In this book you'll learn:
  • How to avoid common mistakes
  • Know that you are growing totally organically
  • Learn about germination requirements for plant families
  • Plant life cycles
  • Seed viability, pollination and isolation distances
  • Best ways to store your seeds

Happy Organic Gardening, Healthy Living....

~Julie

I have always wondered how to save seeds and this book is truly an excellent guide for anyone interested in saving their own seeds from their own gardens. With all the chemical treated seeds along with the gene modified seeds its a good thing to learn how to save your own seed from year to year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seed Saving Savings July 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
By golly finally a book for us normal folk. The art and science of seed saving is just that - an art and a science ... however, our author has gone beyond the hype and gives us not only specific techniques for saving seeds for a countless number of options - but, detailed information on each option is clearly presented. Expert gardeners as well as the novice & beginner will benefit greatly from the shared expertise and local (and adaptable) knowledge on seed starting techniques. I can easily see this being an 'in-print' book to be utilized time and again and eventually acknowledged as one of the best 'actual hands-on' guides available. A concise and distilled theme pervades the writing - directly from some of the best information from researchers and 'real' seed savers. And - lastly - but, not least-of-all - everything is presented from an 'organic' philosophy and view-point. What more could we ask for .... !!!!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not very useful July 24, 2012
By Settler
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I sure don't understand all the four and five star reviews for this. There are a few "tips" but very little in the way of specific "techniques" for various plant varieties. You can get a lot more useful information on basic seed saving for free at the International Seed Saving Institute's website. There you'll get well organized information for beginning, intermediate and advanced (more difficult) seed saving. I was hoping to have something similar on my iPhone for when I was in the field without internet access, but this book is not what I was hoping for.

This manual will help anyone interested in saving seeds for future use, do so without any "surprises". Well written, it is a simple to follow guide with tips which help assure your success. Some growers with limited space may have problems with the generous distances one must maintain (400m) to insure against cross pollination of some varieties. A solid 4 seeds, Uh, stars from me.

4.0 out of 5 stars simple and fun July 5, 2012
By Bilgi
Format:Kindle Edition
This book is a life-time guide for a all gardeners (beginner or advanced) to start saving seeds from their own vegetables. I vividly advice all people who wish to save the heirloom seeds from year to year, as well as for their taste, which is widely perceived to be better than modern varieties. Saving seeds is the first step to conserving the local varieties. And it's more fun. You will not only have seeds for the next gardening season, you will also have greatest gifts for friends.

If you have any experience with gardening, this book is too simplistic. If you have zero experience, this book might have something new to teach you.
