I saw some of the other reviews for Hirts that complained about the germination rate. I bought several Hirts exotic vegetable packets and I have had 100% germination so far. Plants are still small.
I ordered and the seed packets arrived promptly. Interestingly, they arrived in ziploc bags that were really small and only had a few seeds. I love the ziploc baggies! It is so convenient and compact that I am amazed that no one else had sold me seeds this way (not Burpees, HOme Depot, or 15 other suppliers I have used). I planted the seeds within a month. They were planted indoors in a seed starter tray with the compressed peat moss cylinders that expand with water (less than 10 dollars a tray, multiple suppliers). Because they gave me so few seeds per package I only planted a single seed per peat moss puck and had 100% GERMINATION. Still staggered by this. I never get 100%. Interestingly, I planted about 300 plants from multiple suppliers and the Hirts sprouted first as well. Maybe just lucky but these seeds must have been fresh. Will repost at end of season and advise on the actual cucumbers.

I ordered a mixed-up "rainbow" garden for my son and Husband to grow. These yellow cucs, white toms, red carrots, brown bells, blue cabbage, purple broc and orange calliflower all did great! Only the pink eggplant didn't produce, but that may be our fault. We have NO idea what we're doing(this our first ever garden)! Plus we live in Colo. which can be a tough place to grow things. We started everything in little peat pots in a little greenhouse and then moved most of them over to raised beds when it warmed up. All the seeds took. Anyway, we only got one cucumber, maybe because my 5yr. old just ramdomly planted them under a tree instead of in the garden, but WOW, it was such a tasty little guy! We weren't expecting much, but we were so surprised everything did great. I am shocked to read that so many people had such bad luck with this company.

I'm very pleased with the germination rate of this seed (so far). Package states "7-14 days" for germination. I planted six seeds in starter tray with compressed soil pellet; on Tuesday I had three sprouts. They are going to town so far. Easily three inches tall in 5 days! Now, if the fruit is as good as it looks in pictures, I'll be one happy gardener for this item!

A friend gave me the last one of her lemon cucumbers. She warned me that they might have crossed with some other cucurbits in her garden, but that should affect plants grown from those seeds, not those cucumbers. I don't know what was wrong, but it tasted AWFUL. It didn't taste like lemons or like cucumbers. It didn't taste like anything I wanted in my mouth. None of my children would try it, after one glance at me. Sorry, Hirts, I usually love you, but not this time.

I am disappointed in the seeds. I will really be surprised if there are 75 seeds in the package. After I get over the shock of seeing them and paying the rather high postage when the page indicated that the shipping would be free if I bought more than one packages of seeds shipped to the same address...
