Common Core Guide      Kids’ Activity Guide

--This text refers to the Paperback edition.

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-Grade 2–Buddy Bear gets a package from Grandpa that contains five bags of different activities with seeds. From them, he learns how seeds grow, plants some, glues down and labels some others in a collection, decorates a picture frame with beans, and feeds the birds. His collection grows through the week as he saves seeds from various foods that he eats. The artwork consists of cut-paper collages with shadowing and life-sized photos of real seeds that look as though they can be picked right off the pages. The story is entertaining and educational. The theme and pictures will appeal to children, although the text is a little lengthy for beginning readers. Pair this with Ruth Krauss's Carrot Seed (HarperCollins, 1945) and Eric Carle's The Tiny Seed (S & S, 1991). An excellent pick for information and enjoyment.–Sandra Welzenbach, Villarreal Elementary School, San Antonio, TX

More About the Author

I love being out in Nature in all seasons - hiking, camping, star gazing, playing in the snow, gardening, beach combing - looking... listening...touching... being filled with WONDER. Nature is where many of the ideas for books come from. I love doing research and having those - WOW! I didn't know that - moments. I also paint seascapes... and love going to art museums. Guess which of my books that inspired! I write and illustrate books about what I love to do and what I care about. I love sharing with children and adults, my writing process, how I create my artwork and sharing what I have learned about visual literacy. Happy me, lucky me, being a children's book author and illustrator.

I am using this books as a basis for a science literture kit that will talk about the growth of seeds. I found the book to very engaging and colorful. The pictures help to show kids the seeds with great clarity. The wording is simple yet still a little challenging for a K-3 grades. I really enjoy this book as a teacher and I feel that it is a delightful addition to any library.

As we read this book and learned about seeds, both my kids and I were inspired to do some of the inexpensive but fun learning activities in the book! (Gramps sends the little boy a package with five different seed activities... growing grass in a clever pot, making a seed collection, an inexpensive bird feeder... and I can't remember the other two!) I am going to do this for my nephews as soon as they're a bit older. (maybe 4 year olds on up... to 10?)

I processed this order quickly because I thought it was about gardening. My daughter likes gardening and books about gardening. We have many of those. She has her own little bed in the backyard and is patiently waiting for spring.

"Seeds! Seeds! Seeds!" is about a boy bear who receives seeds from his grandfather in the mail. So he starts...a seed collection? Alright, it has its upsides. My children have learned to identify which seeds are which by the end of the first reading. Every few pages we see the bear's seed collection grow by just one seed. So I end up reading the same ones over and over. I thought they would find it boring, but no, they actually like it.

And that's all that matters in this house. Or at least it feels like it.

Not only great for teaching students to read on a Kindle, but the story goes along with our public school curriculum.

This is a well written, informative book. I plan to use it with my 4 grandchildren ages 5.5 to 15 months to get them interesting in gardening.

Great book! Love the pop up word option where I can see the words clearer to share with my grandbabies!! It will also be easier for them to read when they get older! This would make a great book to use for a lesson on seeds..you could extend it out over several days doing the things that his Grandpa has him do in the book!
