Book Description

8 and upSeeds of a Nation
Georgia, land of mountains, rolling hills, pine forests, and golden isles became a state on January 2, 1788. The "Empire State of the South" was the first southern state and the fourth state in the nation to sign the Constitution. This volume chronicles Georgia's first citizens, European explorers, colonization, and statehood. (20020301)

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Each book in the Seeds of a Nation series presents the history of an area before it attained statehood. Most of the colorful photographs of sites and the other illustrations, including maps, paintings, and tinted engravings are well chosen to support the text. Those looking for pre-statehood history, though, will find these compact volumes useful."
-- Booklist (April 2002) (School Library Journal 20040401)

"These titles will be useful for history units in their respective states."
-- School Library Journal (March 2002) (School Library Journal )

""Well-illustrated books on the early history of these states... The layout is attractive and the illustrations include full-color photographs and reproductions as well as maps."
--School Library Journal (April 2004) (School Library Journal )

More About the Author

Vyvyan Lynn is an independent journalist specializing in auto writing. Her background is -- well, she's not a mechanic, but more so a student of metal and horsepower.

With a "kid in the candy store" mentality, Vyvyan checks out new concept cars and cutting-edge technology knowing that designers make cars that are not staid, so she will always be a student. She really likes the coursework.

Vyvyan's feminine demeanor doesn't speak auto freak to the casual acquaintance, but she can't help being raised in a family of NASCAR fans. She was doomed to her fate and finally embraced her now dog-eared copies of Motor Trend. She graduated from Berry College in Rome, Georgia. Vyvyan has been a full-time writer for ten years. She and her two children live in rural Georgia.
