Beyond Brilliant. The Rothko Book: Tate Essential Artist Series is the most succinct exploration of the soul and embodiment of a true artist. Nothing I studied getting my MFA gave me the same profundity of an artist's journey into the creation of a new visual language. The struggles, investigations, successes and failures of the thought process as well as the physical prowess it takes to bring the vision of the artist to the appreciator of the art. Bravo to Bonnie Clearwater

Wrote a 20 page research paper on Rothko and this book was an excellent resource. Each essay approached different ways to see and understand Rothko's art and technique. Fantastic images.

Was not that informed on Rothko and this book captured me. There is a lot of clear information and it left me hungry for more. He was heroic in his vision. I like the amount of information presented about his influences and interactions with fellow artists. I learned of Helen Frankenthaler from a mention in this book and immediately ordered an exciting book of her small scale paintings. I want to see Rothko's paintings. Live near S.F. and I am sure our MOMA has at least a couple of his works (will look that up) but the museum is closed for a complete renovation - it will be awhile. Will continue to enjoy book for some time.

This is a really good book. Clearwater is an expert on Rothko and it shows. Also, the reproductions are excellent. I was a little disappointed in the Tate "Turner Book", but this one is superlative.
