Seeing the Truth!,
By Jo Franz "Author/Speaker www.jofranz.com" (Battle Ground, WA, near Portland, OR) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Seeing Through The Lies: Unmasking the Myths Women Believe (Paperback)
What a great book!
I loved how Vonda writes about the lies we easily buy into--through stories to which I could easily relate while laughing out loud! Her take on the Proverbs 31 woman is especially enlightening since we try to "do it all" unsuccessfully and feel like failures. With outstanding suggestions, such as getting over life being all about "me" by "Serve on Your Birthday," she shows us exactly how to live in truth instead of lies. And the biblical references at the end of each chapter give us the opportunity to dwell of God's Word, letting it soak into our being and help us live in the truth instead of the opposite. I'll be quoting from her book when I speak!

Empowering!,
This review is from: Seeing Through The Lies: Unmasking the Myths Women Believe (Paperback)
Seeing Through the Lies is a treasure trove of insights and resources for women of all ages. Written with the wisdom of a grandmother and wit reminiscent of Erma Bombeck, Vonda Skelton invites the reader to explore the many lies that tempt and entrap women over a lifetime; and skillfully unmasks the greatest Masquerader for who he is. This enlightening guidebook with Bible study prompts inspires us to lower our masks and walk in the light of Christ with new vision.

Was Vonda peeking behind my mask?,
By
This review is from: Seeing Through The Lies: Unmasking the Myths Women Believe (Paperback)
I thought my masks were secure, after all I'd carried them with me for years. When I sat down to read Vonda's book, I thought I knew my masks well enough and had no intention of removing these comfortable friends. Well, Vonda's honesty, vulnerability, and wisdom and wit got behind my hidden self. Little by little she pried them loose. I learned a lot in reading this book and will recommend it to my girlfriends because I'm more convinced than ever we are more beautiful (without our masks) than we allow ourselves to believe.

This book makes me happy...,

I love Vonda's new book!
Just holding it in my hands makes me happy. The cover is beautiful and the content, well, simply wonderful. Vonda manages to handle a number of difficult topics in a light-hearted way. Not in a shallow way, but in a way that allows you to chuckle at yourself while looking deeply at why you do the things you do. On one hand, you'll be challenged in your beliefs, on the other, you'll smile to yourself and relate with the author. Vonda offers an honest and authentic reflection of her own journey while challenging you to take account of your own.

The Real Deal,
This review is from: Seeing Through The Lies: Unmasking the Myths Women Believe (Paperback)
Real, real, real. I so appreciate the candidness of this author. She lets us know that she's had her own ups and downs, and continues to deal with challenges in her own life. I especially liked the chapter titled "It's a Wonderful Life?" where she helps you, the reader, learn from your own "imperfect life" story--crazy as it might be! The practical suggestions are great, and reassure you that God is bigger than any problem you might have. The gentle advice, combined with Vonda's
willingness to make herself vulnerable, add up to one thing: the Ultimate Girlfriend! Once you start reading, you'll have a hard time stopping, and you'll hate to see it end--I promise!

Read this book and be blessed,
This review is from: Seeing Through The Lies: Unmasking the Myths Women Believe (Paperback)
I met this lovely dynamo of a woman at the Writers Conference in the Blue Ridge Mountains, May 2008. Like a magnet those of us at the conference were drawn into her enthusiasm. As I read this book I could "see" Vonda moving and feel her energy coming through the words.
As Vonda says: A half truth is a whole lie. And that is how the devil gets us, with half-truths. Vodna led me through ten chapters, teaching me that it's not how beautiful I am, nor how much stuff I manage to accumulate but learning to trust in Him. I will never be good enough. That is true. But I don't have to be. Jesus Christ has said He is the way the truth and the life. He wants me to submit to him and to His will for my life. "Our past failure does not have to affect our future calling." ~~ Vonda Skelton Read Seeing Through the Lies and be blessed.

Enjoyable Reminder,

This review is from: Seeing Through The Lies: Unmasking the Myths Women Believe (Paperback)
This book was very helpful and enjoyable. I liked her format of talking about a different Lie for each chapter and then did the section on Unmasking with truth backed up with Bible references. Her stories were touching and funny and she came across as very, very real. I feel like I could just go up and strike up a conversation with her. I still think of the story where she jumps off of a tree or something with a rope tied around her waist as a youngster. I was super glad to hear she's not the ultimate housekeeper and doesn't have "it all together." I struggle with this area of my life and realized that we don't have to be the jack of all trades as women in our households. If she can accomplish all she has without too much guilt over letting her husband do most of the housekeeping, then I guess I can forgive myself a bit too. Her book gave great insight into the woman's mind with tendencies to believe perceptions put out there by the world and let me know that I am not alone not as a woman and certainly not as a beloved child of God.

This book had an immediate impact on me! The author truly makes us aware of how effective Satan's lies are in our daily walk. Loved her humorious, nitty-gritty realities. So refreshing and so inspiring!

Vonda Skelton has done her homework. Through humorous examples she holds up the mirror so we can see times and ways we have been deceived by Satan's lies. Then she uses God's Word to reveal the truth. Her transparency caused me to examine my own heart, recognize enemy tactics, and increase my resolve to walk in truth. This is a great book I highly recommend.
