Book Description

February 25, 1993
In Seeking the Heart of God, two of the most renowned and inspirational spiritual leaders -- Mother Teresa and Brother Roger -- combine their wisdom and experience to offer a practical, joyful celebration of the power of prayer.

Prayer, though central to all denominations, remains mysterious to many. Here, the distinct yet complementary voices of Mother Teresa and Brother Roger honor prayer as the wellspring of love and compassion and illuminate it as an integral part of everday life.

"In reality, there is only one true prayer, only one substantial prayer: Christ himself," writes Mother Teresa. "There is only one voice of Christ. Prayer is oneness with Christ."

Mother Teresa and Brother Roger first met in 1976 in Taize, France. Several months later, in Calcutta, they collaborated on what became the first of several joint appeals for Christian reconciliation. Their mutual agenda is clear -- a passionate commitment to the alleviation of human suffering and the use of prayer as a source of comfort, strength and communion with God.

In their work and travels, both Mother Teresa and Brother Roger perceived a great hunger for guidance in prayer. The result is this inspirational text of short commentaries on how to use prayer in daily life. Comprised of 12 chapters, each written half by Brother Roger, Seeking the Heart of God  is their wise and lyrical offering to those whose hunger is that of the spirit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two Great Souls in Coversation About Christ, November 30, 1999
This review is from: Seeking the Heart of God: Reflections on Prayer (Hardcover)
Here is a dialogue between two great souls -- Mother Teresa and Brother Roger -- about the nature and need for prayer in the world, about community in the Body of Christ, about holding Christ in your heart by being of service to others. More than anything, it is a book of prayer and service. Get this book and relish each of the topics. You will find it on your nightstand for many weeks as you read and reread the thoughts and insights of these remarkable people. They are remarkable in that they are like you and me -- except they devoted their lives to service, reconciliation, community, and love for the unloved.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seeking the Heart of God by Mother Teresa et al., March 22, 2006
This review is from: Seeking the Heart of God: Reflections on Prayer (Hardcover)
This is an excellent book on the interconnectedness between
prayer and Jesus Christ. Mother Teresa emphasizes our humanity
to point out the need for prayer in the complicated mesh
between the temporal life and eternal salvation.

Essentially, Mother Teresa is saying that there can be no salvation without prayer and contemplation on a spiritual level. The Mother Teresa lead a simple life substantially in the service of the poor and needy. In many ways, Mother Teresa shunned worldly things in favor of spirituality. This work emphasizes her
philosophy of life and the transitory steps necessary to
reach an eternal salvation through the power of frequent
prayer and Jesus Christ as an intermediary.

The book is a worthy purchase for readers interested in the
life and philosophy of Mother Teresa.
