Book Description

Lyra McCauley is a writer and loves fantasy novels, but until she opens a selection from bookstore owner Cullen Drake, she has no idea he’s a wizard character who lives a double life inside that volume…or the story’s magic will compel her from the edge of depression to adventure, danger, and love.

His gift to Lyra, the Book of Dragonspeir, was actually her copy, misplaced years ago. Lost in her pain following divorce and death, she fails to recognize him as her childhood playmate from the fantasyland. Friendship builds anew. Attraction sparks. But Lyra doubts whether a wizard is capable of love. She’s torn—should she protect her fragile heart or risk new love?

Opening the book’s cover, she confronts a quest: save Dragonspeir from destruction by the Black Dragon before he utilizes power of August’s red moon to expand his strength and overthrow the opposing Imperial Dragon. Lyra accepts the challenge, fearing Cullen will perish if evil wins. Along with magical animal guides, Cullen helps her through many perils, but ultimately Lyra must use her own power…and time is running out.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"This book is filled with magic, a fantastic quest, dragons, good overcoming evil and the connection between Lyra and Cullen.  The author has woven together an amazing story that draws the reader and keeps you hooked. Will I recommend this book?  Yes, most definitely.  Will I read more by this author?  You betcha!  I can't wait to read the next book in the Enchanted Bookstore Legend series." ~Aislynn at Read, Stitch, Cook

"5 stars...this book sounded like a fantasy I always had. How incredible would it be to walk into a bookstore to get a book, but instead, the book comes to life for you? I love this. And I love it even more since it is packed with incredible and lovable characters to die for.

Lyra and Cullen have an instant connection in the book right from the first chapter. You can see they were made for each other.

And the animals, oh boy the animals. This book is full of great talking animals that you will love instantly. My favorite was Noba, the pseudodragon. He was so sweet and adorable and very helpful. There was a unicorn that was actually quite the badass (that is by far the strangest thing I have said) and many more that make a huge impact on Lyra in the book. I applaud Moore for coming up with this world. It was truly epic.

Moore created such a great world that it left an impact on me. I was sad when the book ended because I wanted more. I love all the mystery in this book and some may be unsolved, but it leaves a lot to be discovered for book 2, Heritage Avenged, which I am dying for. I loved the romance in the book. Definitely recommended for those who want an original and beautifully written epic fantasy." ~Diana, Offbeat Vagabond Reviews

From the Author

The Enchanted Bookstore Legends are about Lyra McCauley, a woman destined to become one of five strong females in her family who possess unique magical abilities and serve as Scribes in Dragonspeir. The Scribes span a long history, dating from 1,200 to present day. Each Scribe is expected to journey through Dragonspeir, both the good and evil factions, then draft a written account. Each book contains magic with vast implications.

Lyra was first introduced to Dragonspeir as a young girl, when she met the high sorcerer, Cullen Drake, through a gift of one of those enchanted books. Using its magic, he escorted her into the parallel world of Dragonspeir. Years later, she lost that volume and forgot the world and Cullen. These legends begin where he finds her again--she is thirty-five, standing in his enchanted bookstore, and Dragonspeir needs her.

When Lyra reopens that enchanted book, she confronts a series of quests where she is expected to save the good Alliance from destruction by the evil Black Dragon. While learning about her role, Lyra and Cullen fall in love. He is 220 years old and kept alive by Dragonspeir magic. Cullen will die if Dragonspeir is taken over by the evil faction...Lyra becomes the Scribe.

1.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for in this case October 25, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I bought this book thinking I would love it, they had me at Enchanted Bookstore, great title, good reviews. I must have missed the part in the description where it says the entire book is written around the lame sex scenes. I, like other reviewers, found myself skimming through most of this book just to get it over with, some parts are painfully slow. The author goes into incredible detail for the utterly unimportant, then skips completely over descriptions of scenes that were actually interesting (what is up with the pile of sea creatures she miraculously lands on after being dragged under water?). Descriptions of some places and characters are completely left out, yet clothing is described with meticulous detail. Lyra severely lacks personality, as does Cullen, but who cares about personality when you're writing a book where the girl gets to bang a wizard?

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW! What a GREAT Story!! April 15, 2012

This book had me hooked from the beginning. I didn't want to put it down. This is a fun and fast-reading story.

Ms. Moore draws the reader into the parallel worlds of reality and fantasy with great ease and makes them both real. Her descriptions of feelings, scenery and sounds made me feel like I was walking side by side with Lyra and Cullen. I could smell the jasmine, see the magic lightening and spritely sprays of color, sense the fear of the darkness hovering nearby, feel the love and loss that Lyra and Cullen share. I laughed at the antics of Nobu, the pseudodragon, and Yasqu, the baby dragon with a big destiny. I cried with empathy for Lyra's losses. I cheered her successes. I didn't want this story to end.

This is an exciting tale with well-developed characters and lots of happenings that draw the reader right in their midst. Ms. Moore has a wonderful talent for making the reader feel part of the story. Her creativity in developing her characters and adventures leaves me awed.

While I wait impatiently for the next installment of the Enchanted Bookstore Legend, I dream of seeing this book as a movie. What fun that would be!

5.0 out of 5 stars A treat for fans of Traditional fantasy November 6, 2012

In Marsha A. Moore's popular Seeking A Scribe, Lyra, a world-weary teacher moves back home to take care of her dying aunt. As she settles into her new home, she encounters an interesting bookstore. When she goes back for a second visit, however, she notices the store doesn't seem to be in the same location. Once inside she encounters Cullen, a handsome gentleman, and one she's sure she's met before.

She's right, and he has in his possession a special book she hasn't seen since her childhood. He's also got a tale to tell, one of a world where a dark dragon holds the land's inhabitants on the edge of war. Lyra alone can stop him, but to do so she's got to traverse this land, and write a book about her adventure--and have someone read and approve it. And she only has a limited amount of time.

In the midst of all that, she's distracted by the handsome Cullen and her budding feelings for him.

Marsha A. Moore has built Seeking a Scribe into a much more complex tale than I can explain in this short amount of space, so you'll have to read it for yourself to get the full story. I certainly enjoyed it and I think fans of traditional fantasy and fantasy romance will as well.

Make no mistake – Marsha A. Moore is a good writer. Anyone who writes sentences like “Olive toads sat motionless on moss” and says of a plain of grass “Not one blade moved” deserves attention, and I enjoyed her opening chapters without reservation. The 5* review title that formed in my head at that point was “From Needful Things into Narnia: The Magic of Marsha Moore”.
The difficulties for me began in chapter 5 when we passed through the gateway into Dragonspeir and it turned out not to be Narnia at all. Instead it was a Wonderland on steroids, a kind of drug-induced Disneyworld that grabbed my suspended disbelief and smacked me round the face with it. Jonathan Swift’s sensible advice about gradualism flew out of the magic casement so fast I admit I was nearly unseated at that point. However, I reminded myself of the quality of chapters 1-4 and remained in the saddle.
But it was when Alice turned randy and started feeling the erect manhood of the horny wizard I’d previously assumed was a wise old father figure - rather like Moses or Merlin or Gandalf or Obi-Wan or Albus Dumbledore - that I really came unstuck. I had nothing to hold on to any more – unlike Lyra, the heroine of the story.
So I freely admit the fault may be mine. I may be set in my ways and simply unprepared for a genre fusion of Disney cartoon fantasy with steamy sex. If that’s what you’re looking for, this book may well float your boat.
And the premise was so promising… It’s probably me. It’s definitely me. I recommend you read it yourself and make up your own mind!

Feminine, strong heroine that deals with her aunt's failing health and later death while exploring a fantasy world she'd found as a child when she was ill. Deals with modern day problems of self-esteem and relationship issues with trust following divorce, in-home hospice care and lost family relationships while slipping into a fantasy world where the heroine is the world's last hope of survival. Writing a fantasy book describing the world and her quest to save it is it's only hope of survival. Intriguing concept. Romance is based on friendship and relationships with mutual respect. I bought Book 2 in series and am waiting for Book 3 to be released.

Don't let your preteen read this fantasy novel....it gets a bit steamy.
