Renegade Ops is a fun twin-stick driving shooter. It reminds me a lot of playing Jackal on the NES when I was a kid. It has a pretty simple mission and objective structure which is easy to follow. There are a variety of different cars to drive, each with a set of upgrades you can unlock as you play more. This version also includes the Cold Strike campaign DLC which adds even more missions to destroy things in!

For the technical aspects, the graphics and sound are great. You can't really ask for any more than what the game gives you. As for the controls, trying to drive with the keyboard is a bit clumsy so I recommend using a gamepad. The physics system can also take a bit of getting used to, I find myself getting stuck or rolling my car fairly often. Luckily the game detects this quickly and resets your car so you can keep playing.

Overall a very enjoyable game.

So I don't usually bother to write reviews for games, but this game deserves some hype and recommendations. Renegade Ops is a top-down twin stick shooter were a group of 4 can ride around blowing everything up while having fun. Each vehicle has special abilities and I would not be surprised if you ended up fully upgrading three to four of them in your total play time. That's all because of the fun to be had here playing through the game's co-op and in single player with easy, normal, and hardcore modes to enjoy. The game is seriously a good time and you don't feel cheated in the slightest with the gameplay. The controls takes a bit getting used to and I still feel like I'm improving, but it's also very straight forward and anyone can grab a controller and go. Best way to describe it is like your driving a vehicle in Halo, it drives in the direction you aim and the animation makes the vehicle respond with physics intact. Note that I only played this on a 360 controller, which is fully supported. The story sequences are relatively brief and actually gave me a laugh a few times, otherwise it's a typical comicbook-ish look perhaps better quality than most games that do this style. There is also a ranking system at the end of each mission, you get graded and I found myself actually aiming for a higher score in this day and age of gaming. Renegade Ops is an absolute blast in co-op, so make sure you can find a buddy to go through it with your second and third time. From what I could see their aren't many public online games being hold, so definitely have a mic and a buddy to enjoy co-op. The DLC adds 3 more missions plus more and it certainly felt like it was worth it. This game is just great fun and has my full recommendation. If you like the concept and genre then this is an easy buy. You'll likely be looking for more after playing it to death.

The Good: Excellent visuals, great controls with lots of action, nice variety of challenging enemies, fun four player co-op

The Bad: Gets repetitive quick, can be very hard, levels are too long, can only equip four upgrades, very short with only 7 levels

Twin stick shooters are running amok on mobile devices, but the best tend to be on consoles. Renegade Ops lets you choose from a variety of characters with a special weapon each. You can level up and unlock new upgrades while trying to mow down as many enemies to rack up a high score. The story is actually really cliché and stupid with a commando leader named Bryant trying to stop the evil Inferno from taking over the world. The cut scenes are drawn in nice comic book style stills, but the dialog is as cheesy as it can get. No matter how you try to kill Inferno he always seems to survive and it's just one of those "You'll never kill me Bryant! MWAHAHA!" type stories.

Besides the cheesy story the action is really fun with some great graphics and physics. You drive around your vehicle using the right stick to shoot with your machine gun. Along the way you can get pick-ups to make your machine gun stronger as well as secondary ammo pick-ups like rocket launchers, rail guns, and flamethrowers. There aren't many pick-ups which is a real bummer, but this is just the start of what else there isn't much of. The enemy variety is interesting with varying degrees of difficulty, but it leads to the game being very difficult most of the time. You start off with 5 lives per level and if you lose them all its game over. The levels are very long and you will be infuriated if you have to go through all that effort again.

Dang!!! This game blows me away. It's old school fun, challenging, but not too hard, with a fun and corny story and more explosions than The Expendables. Missions are fun, and can be played with online or local co-op! I picked this up for $3.75 and it included the DLC, but now that I've played it, I'd drop $10 on it without regret.

Important to note that the game code can be redeemed on Steam. The steam version includes Gordon Freeman as a playable driver. Very awesome!

It drives me nuts when my friends recommend horrible indie games with the ugliest graphics ive seen since the 70s.

This is how a classic game should be done, new graphics but with the same old classic game style.

Indie game devs need to take lessons from games like this.

Anyways the game is pure fun. I play on PC without a controller and hardly have any issues. The only real issue is control while using the speed boost but its really not that bad once you get used to it.

Pure fun and full of action. The upgrades and different characters you can play add a lot of replay value for me.
