Excellent system!!,
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Sega Genesis Core System 2 (Video Game)
I began video gaming on this platform at the age of 50. I am now 63yrs old and still going strong on video games.I love this platform because it is sleek and the controller was the first to be ergonimically designed. The games are VERY enjoyable and I go back to them regularly. They had some very unique ones such as Boogerman, Zombie ate my neighbors, Toejam & Earl on the planet Funketron. It also had the BEST pinball games EVER to be released to date. Dragon's Revenge and Dragon's Fury.I recently purchased Phantasy Star IV on this platform and am enjoying it very much! I also liked the RPG Sword Of Vermillion a very underated game BUT a good one! This system had superb graphics for the time. Was very far ahead. I go back and play the Sega games since most games today are just clones of clones :) Sega was way ahead of it's time in platforms too bad they did not know how to run a business or they would have given Nintendo, Sony, and Xbox some HEAVY competition. You will not be disappointed with this platform that began a lot of fine things.

One of the best systems ever,

Since I was a little kid I have always been a Sega loyalist, the only Sega systems I never had were the Sega Master system and the Game Gear. I always loved my Genesis and I still play it to this day, but the one thing that always ticked me off was how the Super Nintendo always got more coverage than the Genesis did. True, the Genesis didn't have the color pallete or sound chip that the Super NES had, but the Genesis had a huge library of exclusive games that defined the 16-bit era. Naturally as with every Sega system, the best games are the sports and fighting games, and the Genesis has tons of them. Without a doubt the Genesis is a landmark system, and if you still have yours hang on to it. Below is a list of Genesis games that are extremely recommended for your Genesis library (you can find many of them at used video game stores or yard sales):Gunstar Heroes (the best Genesis game ever)

I own a Sega Genesis 2, and I have the 32X add-on for it, and I think that the Genesis is one of the best and most successful systems ever made! Knowing that its made by Sega, you know your getting a great system that'll provide hours and hours of fun! There are literally a TON of games for it, which are all great bargains! The Genesis is also a great way to entertain yourself on those boring rainy days... If you have kids, its a great starter system for little ones, its also fun even if your 16! But their is one thing you need to know before buying a Genesis, if your gonna get the Sega CD/32X add-on for it, get this Genesis, the Genesis 2, but if you DON'T want to get the SegaCD or 32X add-on, get the Sega Genesis 3, which is cheaper(its only $X!) and its smaller, about the size of a portable CD player, and the Genesis 3 is also a good replacement system if your old Genesis broke, and you need a new one! So, overall I give the Genesis a rating of 5 out of 5, cuz its the best!!

This is one of the best systems I've ever played.I've had this system since I was 7 and I still play this system today. Here's five realy fun games on the genesis in no order:
Thunder Force 3,Sonic the Hedgehog 1,2, and 3,Contra : The Hard Cores, and more! The only two horrible games I've played on the genesis are Hard Drivin' and Shaq Fu. I even love going to my local fleemarket to buy more games for this system.Even if I have my Xbox and Gamecube systems then I'd still play this system.Get it if you see it on sale anywhere. It's that much fun.

I purchased a Sega Genesis console back in November 1989. My Genesis is still in mint condition and I pull it out once in a while to relive the classics. If you do not own one of these gems, I highly recommend that you pick one up! There are hundreds of titles available, most of which sell for only a few dollars. Some of these titles are among the greatest video games ever created; you must own these if you're a collector.
While playing these games, it's important to consider the limits the game developers were constrained to. Unlike today's consoles - with seemingly unlimited CPU power, bandwidth and memory - the developers were forced to work with a very small amount of storage capacity to hold graphics and sound data. Over time, the developers came up with some very clever techniques to overcome these limitations. I recall being "wowed" by the effects in games such as Gunstar Heroes and Earthworm Jim...effects I had no idea my little old Genesis could do more than five years after owning it! Over time, I came to really appreciate these efforts and continued looking forward to how much further the envelope would be pushed. Below is a list of must-own games for the Genesis. This is by no means a definitive list; these are just my favorites among those games I have played. Platformers: Sonic 1, 2 & 3, Chuck Rock 2, Castle of Illusion, Cool Spot, Ristar, Alex Kidd, Earthworm Jim, Aladdin, Ecco, Flink*(see bottom) and Shinobi 3. Fighters/Brawlers: Golden Axe, Streets of Rage 1 & 2, Eternal Champions, Street Fighter II CE and Two Crude Dudes. Shooters: Gunstar Heroes, Sub Terrania, Truxton, Gaiares, M.U.S.H.A., Ranger X and Raiden. RPGs: Phantasy Star 2, 3 & 4, Beyond Oasis, Shining Force II, Land Stalker and Crusader of Centy Sports: Arnold Palmer Tournament Golf, Madden and Tommy Lasorda Baseball. If you're inclined to pick up the Sega CD add-on, you should also consider the following: Flink, Wonder Dog (Sega CD), Final Fight (Sega CD), Sonic CD, Earthworm Jim SE, Robo Aleste, Silpheed, AH3 Thunderstrike and Batman Returns. *The Misadventures of Flink is available on cartridge in the Euro market only; however, it's available domestically on the Sega CD.

One of the cheapest, funnest, and durable gaming consoles is the model 2 sega Genesis which brings gaming awesomeness for those who want 16 bit gaming.Even though the used deals sold by the third-party sellers often times only gives the console without power cords and controllers, sometimes sellers include cords, controllers and even games for you. The Sega Genesis also has must-have games like sonic the hedgehog, mortal combat,(the game with the famous blood code) and more. The controllers are kidney-bean controllers with 3 buttons,(6 if you get the fighting controller)and a well-designed d-pad.Unfortunately most game for it are in bad shape due to poor care younger gamers give it. But overall, the sega Genesis delivers the true meaning of 16-bit gaming!

Still Fun After All Of These Years,

I'll never forget the first time I got my hand's on the Genesis; it was Christmas 1994, I was ten year's old and a couple of months ago I played the Genesis for the FIRST TIME at my friend's house and I absoutely fell in love with Sega (I still love them to this very day), so I begged my mom for this system and behold I finally got it.
What made this system so great you ask? Simple; the games! Some of the BEST games EVER MADE were on the Genesis; Gunstar Hero's, Sonic 1, 2, and 3, Madden was FIRST started on the Genesis (though it was also on the SNES, but that was later on), Streets Of Rage, the Castlevania games were on here, Mortal Kombat 1 (they had blood on the Genesis game but they blocked it out on the SNES because of censor issues with Nintendo so Midway had to take it out and replace it with sweat), Street Fighter: The New Challenger's and there are AT LEAST 700+ games for this system alone. So if your looking to get back to your old school gaming roots; start out with the Genesis, you will not regret it.
