'Falcon' Awesome!,

This system needs no intro, nor an outro. It brought us some of the classics (Sonic the Hedgehog, Altered Beast), and gave us a feel of what games could be like (Shining Force II, Earthworm Jim).
If you're wondering why the Genesis is held in such high esteem, all you need to do is look at its extensive library of games. The early titles were marginal (including the original pack-in game "Altered Beast") but the quality increased over time. The system excelled in platformers, shooters, and most of all, sports titles. Compared to their Super Nintendo counterparts, Genesis sports titles didn't look as sharp or sound as clear, but they played far better. Due to its sizeable library and excellent packaging, the Genesis is an ideal system for collectors. Individual cartridges are inexpensive, and it's not difficult to find complete games in great condition. The variety of games will satisfy any taste, although shooter and sports fans will especially be drawn to the system. The Genesis systems themselves are also very commonplace and inexpensive. Pros and Cons: + Huge, terrific library. + Fast action, smooth animation with minimal slowdown. + Superb packaging + Highly collectable + Shining Force II - Three-button controller limiting for fighting games - Meager sound capabilities

i've had my sega for so long i cannot remember. i have passed it on to my little girl who is six years old, and it does my heart good to hear that old sega introduction music. she prefers that over the other game systems in the household (i even have an old psone system). this is one system that has lasted throughout the years and i will keep it as an collector's item. original sega rules other systems drool.

Ah the Sega genesis. this is one of those golden age systems..that never gets old. i remember getting this for christmas in 1989... at that time i was a atari 7800 guy then but when i first saw the genesis at toys r us i had to have one!
when the genesis came out, there was nothing out there like it. sure there was the sega master system, Nintendo nes, atari 7800 and atari xe systems as well as the turbo grafx 16 all great systems in their own rights ...but the genesis was and still is something special. first off the graphics on the genesis were gorgeous! they were "high definition" for the time and was proudly stated on the system. the color pallet was high too allowing for eye popping colors. it had stereo sound, and on the original model you have the optino to hook up extra speakers to add more sound excitement.. the genesis was a force to be reckoned with in the gaming scene. then there were the games...your got the arcade smash ALTERED BEAST as the pack in game..which in my opinion blew mario out of the water. although later models got the sonic the hedgehog as a pack in title..which still is 100 times better than mario. the games were awesome from fighting titles such as streets of rage, the shinobi series, arcade classics like e swat, to shooters like Musha and after burner..as well as excellent third party games the genesis has a extensive gaming library...with something for everybody. later on as other systems came out to compete with sega..the genesis had the greatest add on the segs cd which let you play cd games with updated(for the time) graphics and stereo sound..3 games come to mind sonic cd..final fight cd and lets not forget the terminator..that still fun to play today there was another add on the 32x which had "advanced" 32 but graphics and some great games like star wars arcade, doom, after burner and many more.. the mega drive games (genesis in japan) sported some incredible games too..i have a converter and some of the import games outshine the us versions..but thats in my opinion. if you want to recapture great gaming memories grab a genesis..but be sure to get the original version..thats the best one...the genesis 2 and 3 versions were ok but didnt feel the same most games are inexpensive and offer hours on entertainment .. even today in the age of playstation 3 and xbox360(which are awesome) the sega genesis remains a great system.. mine is still going strong. also, you had the powerbase converter so you can play your master system games..all and all sega was a great value also!
