5.0 out of 5 stars Great! Just make sure you have a Genesis 1 and NOT 2 or 3!
I bought one of these and it worked perfectly. However, you need to be sure that you have a Genesis model 1 or this will NOT work, because later models had a smaller connecter. If your Genesis has a headphone jack, volume control and power switch, then it's a model 1 and these A/V cables are what you want. If your Genesis lacks a headphone jack and volume control, but has...

3.0 out of 5 stars Only So-So
It works. The problem is, it only has one audio output, so unless you have a splitter, you will have to listen out of your right ear. The best way to combat this is use a 3.5mm jack to 2 RCA outputs and just plug the headphone jack into the genesis and the RCA's into your TV. If you don't have one of these cables lying around, you are out of luck. Sometimes, you have...

I bought one of these and it worked perfectly. However, you need to be sure that you have a Genesis model 1 or this will NOT work, because later models had a smaller connecter. If your Genesis has a headphone jack, volume control and power switch, then it's a model 1 and these A/V cables are what you want. If your Genesis lacks a headphone jack and volume control, but has a power "button", then it's a Genesis model 2. A model 3 is easy to tell because it's tiny and says "Genesis 3" right on it.

Hope that answers some questions for anyone who might have wanted to know, or wasn't sure about buying this!

When I tried to hook up my Genesis through the Coax Cable the picture looked terrible. I've gotten so used to todays graphics and I just could not get used to it.

So I bought this cable in hopes of a decent clear picture. I was BLOWN AWAY with the results. This cable made everything look great. The color was strong, the picture was clear, and the graphics look wonderful. The Sega was really a good system.

Note, there is only one audio cable (red audio). You will have to buy another cable to turn the red audio cable into a white and red. It won't be surround sound but you will get sound out of each side of your speakers. Also this cable is for the first model of Genesis.

So here was my situation-- Got a big ol' HDTV for Christmas and I've been getting back into video games again. The PS3 is a kicka$$ system, but I've had a bizarro urge to play old school games from the 80s and 90s-- including the Sega Genesis. I hooked the Genesis up to my HDTV using the standard RF box, but it looked like CRAP. Washed out colors, blurry... Who the heck wants to see that on the big screen?? So after coming across this cable, I figured it was worth a shot. So, was it?

Yup. Now keep in mind that even with this cable, the Genesis still puts out standard resolution, not 720 or 1080. So nobody is going to see you playing Shinobi and say "hey, is this the PS3?" But the image will look a lot better than it does with the RF cable. The main difference is that the colors are more refined. I tested it out using the Spiderman game. While your character is standing still, with the RF box, you see what looks like a red halo around the arms, feet and head. With this cable, the halo is gone. All of the red stays within the lines as they are supposed to. And small lettering is alot easier to read. I saw an even greater difference when playing games on the Sega CD. Yeah, must of those games still suck, but at least they look alot better.

Truth be told though, in the end, I hooked my Genesis back up to my old Philips 27" CRT instead of the HDTV. The difference is alot more striking when using this cable on a standard TV. I only keep that TV around for playing old school games, and this cable makes my Genesis look crisp and clear on that TV. One thing I just noticed-- this cable also works on the Sega Master System-- the A/V port in the back is the same as the Genesis.

So if you want to make your Genesis look as good as it was made to, buy this cable.

If you don't have one of these cables lying around, you are out of luck. Sometimes, you have to wiggle the cable on the Sega to get it to show video. (This might be my Genesis, But I doubt it.)

I've been using the alternative hookup since the 90s but in recent years that cord is picky about how it plugs into the console and won't always display on the tv, and much to my chagrin I didn't already have this cable stored away somewhere. Fortunately, it was reasonably priced, works exactly the way it's supposed to, and sits securely into my gaming system, at least for now. I'll see in another 20 years.

I purchased this for my sega genesis 1. It works perfectly and is so much better than the old r/f adapter that came with the unit new. Remeber this is only for the sega 1, with the headphone jack and volume adjustment on the console. It will not work for later versions of the sega.
