4.0 out of 5 stars NFL 2K it ain't
It seems silly to not give five star rating to the best basketball game of all time, but that's just what I'm doing. If you are a basketball or sports fan, this is a must-buy, but that being said, it has problems. 3.0 out of 5 stars Good graphics, could have had more detailed play.
Only a certain amount of the players in the game actually do their patent moves; and these moves comes from players like Ewing's delayed free throw. Most of the pg's in the game play way to similar. Iverson's and Derek Fisher's game are like one. It is too easy to dunk in the game. When Voshon Lenard (Heat) dunks on a baseline drive thats when you judge the real...

It seems silly to not give five star rating to the best basketball game of all time, but that's just what I'm doing. If you are a basketball or sports fan, this is a must-buy, but that being said, it has problems. The overall presentation of the game is incredible, but not quite as seamless as NFL 2K, which is the new benchmark for video sports. This game has great gameplay, just like NFL, and absolutely unbelievable graphics. The only problem this game has, actually, is the fact that it's not terribly fun. Maybe it' because I like football better than basketball, but this game doesn't give me the thrill that NFL 2K does; rather, it frustrates me horribly. The discrepency in execution of plays between the the computer and human is enormous, and a lot of the ratings for players and teams are way out of whack. All of that being said, it absolutely blows away NBA Live 2000, probably the next-best B-ball game, for the PC, which will now collect dust for the rest of time. Games like this one are the reason why I and many others bought Dreamcasts: Sega's painstaking dedication to making the best sports games around, which the Genesis made them famous for. I can't wait for NHL 2K.

4.0 out of 5 stars NBA 2k. The Best of The Best and Better Then The Rest!, January 18, 2000

Wow. This game is the greatest basketball game to ever grace the Earth. Remember all those other basketball games with the shoddy graphics and horrible framerates? Well, forget 'em. This game has great graphics with amazing detail, from the holes in the characters uniforms to the tattoos on Jason Williams arms to the facial hair on Shaq's face. The characters also correspond to their real-life counter-parts. From Patrick Ewing's slow run to Jason Williams' famous fancey foot work. Oh, it also runs at a steady 60 fps. The game also plays grrreeaattt! Pulling off a perfect play, alley-oop, dunk, 3-pointer, whatever feels great! The game does have some flaws that keep it from being perfect. Some strange calls from thee ref really get annoying, and sometimes people on your team will catch the ball with one foot out of bounds. Why? There is also some strange missed passes, but thos are actually kind of realistic. The last flaw is that during a season game you can't check stats from other games, just the one your playing. Oh well, a great game non-the-less. Definetely on worth buying. It just never seems to get old. Peace.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best hoops game ever made!, December 6, 1999

This game easily blows away every other basketball game on the market. The graphics are superb and the sound is pretty good. From the players, to the arenas, and even the fans in the stands.... It all has a tremendous amount of detail. The only reason this game didn't get 5 stars is because of glitchy play-by-play and the inability to pass out of a dunk or layup. This leads to a lot of unnecessarily blocked shots that could have easily been avoided by passing out to a team-mate. Other than that, it's a fantastic game.

Don't get me wrong. I own and love this game and am currently enjoying playing a season against my friend. But we'll both tell you the same thing: this game can get frustrating to no end! I've never seen computer players behave so brilliantly one moment and then so stupidly the next. There are a TON of glitches in this game and the more you play it, the more you'll find. The two most frustrating glitches are 1. Passing to someone and discovering that they have a foot out of bounds. Get on the court, you stupid moron! 2. Even the best passers in the game can and will make the dumbest passes you've ever seen. You can try to pass to a guy that is ten feet ahead of you and the ball will sail over everybody's heads. Aargh! Along with all the other glitches, this leads to a ridiculous amount of turnovers that can cost you a win. How annoying! Now, it may sound like I'm bashing this game pretty hard, but when everything works, this is a joy to play. I've actually gone an entire half before without commiting one turnover. Go figure. They definitely have to work on the control for the next game (NBA 2K1) but I don't see how the graphics will improve much on the next one as they are so amazing on this one. I give this game four stars and I take one star off because of the glitches. If there were no glitches, it would get a five. Or more like a six.

I have never played a sports game that was as fun and challenging as this one. I play it on pro and every single game goes down to the wire. Even if i lose, i feel like it is my fault. Unlike in other games in which the control and game mechanics are so lousy, you have no control over the result, NBA 2K is so balanced, the outcome of the game is truly up to you. This game has so many playable angles and they all look so nice. This game is just fantastic. If you have to buy one basketball game, skip on NBA Showtime, get this one!

When I heard of the new Dreamcast, I was intrigued. When I heard of the specs and saw screen shots, I was interested. When I saw a demo of NBA2K, I was hooked. I sat in awe for 15 minutes as some guy I didn't know was mashing buttons in a local retail outfit. I knew then and there I had to have this game. The graphics are crystal clear, and the game runs extremely smooth. I personally play sports games for their exibition mode, I love the fact of playing out a 'real' season, and NBA2K delivers. Without a doubt, the best basketball game around.

Well, Sega has done it again. Take it from a person that, on the whole, doesn't like basketball games...This game is great.

Sega has put the same attention to detail in this offering as they have for NFL 2K. The graphics and gameplay are certainly the best that I've ever experienced in a basketball game.

If you're looking for another game to utilize the full potential of the Dreamcast, get this game...you won't be disappointed.

Is it the perfect basketball game? No. Does it have its flaws? Oh yes. But what it is, is the best basketball game made yet--period. Therefore, it is one every person should try. Once you play it you can never go back to 32-bit.

I have played 95% of the basketball games out there, and nothing compares to this, Everything is incredible...season has been an absoloute blast, so far, from the "rookie watch" to the all-star votes, this game has topped everything I had expected.

Now for the complaints...some players' skill level is rated WAY to high and others to low, like for example david robinson being one of the top 7 players in the game, and on the other hand vince carter being rated so low, plus the blocks truly get old after a while...also advice, if you play a season make sure and sub your players regularly, or else they will go down with major injuries, otherwise, it is unbelivable!

The game is so real I actually sat and just watched the computer play itself and probably enjoyed it more than a real game. So real it's eerie. The first game I played myself was a nail-biter on the road against the Jazz where I had Glenn Rice is a last-second three to win the game. The tension was real too.
