5.0 out of 5 stars Ready?, December 3, 2007

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I like fighting games, and I have been enjoying Virtua Fighter for some time now. I bought this when it came out on the ps3 (this and resistance were my main games "back in the day") it looked amazing, was very fluid, and I had a blast playing it. Bad thing was, you could not play it online. People I know in real life, do not play fighting games as much as I do. So playing them at home, leaves little to be enjoyed. When I heard the 360 version was coming out with online play, I decided I must buy it, and I'm glad I did.

The graphics look pretty much the same, and the game is as fast on both platforms. The main change, and the whole reason I bought the game was to play online.

If you have played DOA4 online, you can imagine how VF5 is online. The game does have slow down while you are playing. Though you can get through many matches without any slowdown, eventually, you will meet slowdown. It is usually quite funny when slowdown happens, everyone is waiting on the slowdown to end so you can fight again, which leads to copious bouts of laughter as everyone is trying to regain the upper hand, the game seems to just freeze, or go neo in matrix slow. With that said, I still enjoy the game, and I think if you give it a go, you will too.

I am glad sega put online into this game, and I cannot wait for Soul Calibur 4 to come out, with online as well!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sega AM2 Arcade Greatness, December 11, 2007
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This is updated from the PS3 release. PS3 was ver B, the Xbox 360 is Version C, the latest version in the arcades in Japan.

enhancements: cleaner looking graphics than the PS3.
ONLINE play and features. (HUGE!)
Version C video introduction.
Other Version C arcade features? Character item customization...
RUMBLE support.

Online play and graphics and Version C make this a must buy for VF and Sega Arcade fans.

Excellent fighting game, and in high definition and 5.1 sound!

5.0 out of 5 stars A REAL man's fighting game, April 16, 2009
By Strategos "The Guardian of Time" (In Space above Planet Earth) - See all my reviews
Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
There's something about those fighting games isn't there? While some of them resemble Roman gladiator bloodsports more than anything else, the fundamental concept is really just a high-speed game of chess (attack, defend, counter, checkmate). And while true fighting games are largely seen as button mashers or headache-inducing memorization exercises (try Star Wars: Masters of Terra Kasai some time if you want some really long and pointless combos), this game is a perfect example of a game that is NOT about mashing buttons OR about ridiculous combos (although some them are tricky to be sure).

Some people have been following this series with devotion ever since the first polygon fighter even was released (Virtua Fighter) and have watched the series grow in graphical prowess and move complexity (2 got a lot of devotion while not many loved 3). Personally I didn't really see the light until I played Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution on the PS2.

Some people undoubtedly will ask themselves why the heck they should get this game if they already have Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution. The answer is half the reason why I bought the game myself. The levels. If there was one thing I didn't like about Virtua Fighter 4 it was the fact that the levels were few and they bored me.. While the levels in VF 5 aren't exactly on the level of Smash Bros or Soul Calibur for diversity and entertainment value, they are better, and feature some nice weather effects (splashing through water, falling snow, whipping wind). There are other upgrades too, of course.

The game is based around the Crysis Engine, and features some of the fastest (and if not overly showy, at least very clean) graphics you will ever see. The controls, likewise, are razor sharp. I have never in my life played a game that so thoroughly drove home the feeling that if you failed, it was not the controls, and it was not the game, it was that you just need to be a split-second faster (maybe you'd win more if you drank some Jolt Cola?)

The music is fine, and the presentation is passable, but the incredibly well designed gameplay mechanics and characters and what drive this game. Every character is very unique, and every character will take you a long LOOOOOONG time to master. But with every increase in skill this game becomes more and more addictive, as you keep challenging yourself to see just how much faster and more proficient you can become with each character you choose to play as.

The real star of this show though, did not become apparent to me until I went to a friend's house and used my free month (actually, just a week) of Xbox Live. While I was visiting my friend and using his lightning quick Internet (I simply cannot afford Xbox Live or Internet, as I am often unemployed and gots to pay back them school loans), I tried many games online. I bidded on car auctions, tried to race a few people in a few different games, ect, ect. What I kept coming back to was the elegantly simple online ranked match-ups. I lost 40 times in a row and didn't care. Playing against real human opponents who learn and respond to your playing style in real-time is simply an unmatched experience. I don't know anyone who plays a lot of this sort of game, and I sure as heck don't know any Virtua Fighter gurus. If you want a fantastic fighting experience where you will be tested and refined and experience some awesome battles, online is the way to go (if you can afford it).

It's really quite simple. If you're one of those Capcom fighting game addicts you probably wouldn't play this game if there was a $50.00 bill inside. Likewise for the Soul Calibur and Tekken fanatics. If you like all kinds of games, you definitely need to try it at the very least. If you love Virtua Fighter games you probably already own it. And if you are like me, a hard-core gamer who also happens to not be crazy about playing games full of demonic swords and/or spurting blood, and just wants a good chess match at the speed of light....you just may have found one of your new favorite games.
