5.0 out of 5 stars Sega Was The Only One Who Did It!, June 25, 2001
By A Customer
This is probably the only X-men Game that captured the feeling of Marvel's greatest heroes, THE X-MEN! This game is great, but then again it is a 16-Bt side-scrolling game but hey, it is an old game. You can choose from Gambit, Nightcrawler, Wolverine and Cyclops! You also have 4 other X-men to help you throughout the game: Iceman, Storm, Archangel, Rogue and Jean. If you're an X-men fan and aren't consumed with Playstation and all those other new systems, get this game! 10 out of 5 stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sega was the only company to make a great X-Men platformer, December 6, 2003

(TOP 50 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Acclaim managed to make plenty of lackluster video games using popular Marvel licenses (X-Men, Spider-Man, Iron Man, and let's not forget that Fantastic Four game for the PS1), but to this day Sega is the only company to make a great X-Men game (in fact they made two; this game and it's sequel X-Men 2: The Clone Wars). X-Men manages to catch the spirit of the comic allowing you play as Wolverine, Cyclops, Nightcrawler, and Gambit while getting assistance from Iceman, Storm, Rogue, Archangel, and Jean Grey. You go through a number of huge levels, ranging from the Savage Land to a Shi'ar ship to Excalibur's castle to a ravaged Sentinel filled future to Asteroid M where you confront Magneto. You are thrown against hordes of generic looking enemies, but X-Men is surprisingly difficult and features some great boss battles (including Juggernaut, Deathbird, Sabretooth, Ahab, and finally Magneto among others) and the game effectively uses each character's different mutant powers such as Wolvie's berserker attack and Gambit's kinetic laced cards. The graphics are sharp, colorful, and surprisingly full of detail, while the controls are easy enough to pick up. All in all, this is one of the best Marvel licensed 16-bit games ever, but it would only be topped by it's sequel X-Men 2: The Clone Wars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Game, August 5, 2005
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I got X-Men eleven or twelve years ago when my parents got me a Sega Genesis. It was my first video game and to this day it is still one of my favorite games. And even now in the days of the PS2 and Xbox, I'll still frequently pop this game into my Genesis and play. It's simple, fun and familiar.

The game lets you play as four X-Men (Gambit, Nightcrawler, Wolverine and Cyclops) and has five backup characters (Archangel, Storm, Rouge, Iceman and Jean Grey) that you can't play as, but you can call upon if you need help. The game brilliantly features the X-Men's different powers.

Each of the six levels are recognizable to people who are into X-Men...the Savage Land, the Shi'ar Empire, Excalibur's Lighthouse and Asteroid M to name most of them. The levels are interesting and well-detailed for a 16-bit game. They're also relatively big.

The boss fights are really great, too. Characters like Juggernaut, Sabertooth, Apocalypse, Mojo and obvously Magneto show up. Unfourtunately, a lot of them are really difficult to beat (not impossible) without backup characters, which is the only real problem with this game.

If you still own a working Genesis and don't have this game or haven't played this game before, I recommend looking for it.
