4.0 out of 5 stars Rally 2 Review
If you liked the first Rally on the Saturn, you'll like this one. This was a great effort, but Sega could've done better. 3.0 out of 5 stars Dreamcast game marred by 3rd party support
I recently purchased Sega Rally 2 and have to say that while it is a fun game, make sure you have the right peripherals for it. I have a Performance/InterAct controller and memory card that according to the lady at 1-800-USA-SEGA is causing my game to crash and not be able to save. I have now had to bite the bullet of my previous peripheral purchases and special order...

4.0 out of 5 stars Rally 2 Review, December 1, 1999

If you liked the first Rally on the Saturn, you'll like this one. This was a great effort, but Sega could've done better. Certain aspects of the game (especially the frame rate) could have used some more polishing, but the great Sega Rally car physics are intact. When it comes to attention to detail, Sega didn't skimp (e.g. when you drive through a muddy area, your car gets dirty, and when you powerslide around a corner, you can see skid marks). There's a wide variety of cars to use, all of which have very different handling charactersistics. The game's best graphics are in the Dreamcast-only tracks (4 arcade + 12 DC-only). The race replays look very sharp, and use several neat camera angles. Overall, I'm happy I bought this game, and would have given it 5 stars if the animation were smoother. Hopefully, this is an indication of the quality we can expect from Dreamcast racing games.

5.0 out of 5 stars Its a GREAT game, but NO netplay!, November 23, 1999

The other review implies that the US version of Rally 2 has netplay... it DOESNT... it is STILL an incredible game but the netplay HAS been removed from the US version... Dont let the lack of netplay scare you thou. The game DEFINATLY stands on its own without netplay... it is the most fun racing game that I've played since Daytona CCE and the ORIGINAL Sega Rally :) Its a DEFINATE must have for the DC if you like racing games... even just a little.

I have a Performance/InterAct controller and memory card that according to the lady at 1-800-USA-SEGA is causing my game to crash and not be able to save. I have now had to bite the bullet of my previous peripheral purchases and special order a Sega brand VMU from Amazon just so that I can play the game. Sega informed me that both MadCatz & InterAct were not only unliscensed products, but that they are damaging my Dreamcast console. Buyer Beware!

2.0 out of 5 stars I feel like I'm playing the Saturn version, December 12, 1999
By A Customer
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars

I am a huge SEGA racing fan, but Sega Rally 2 for the Dreamcast is not my cup of tea. I had a Saturn and Sega Rally 1 for it. I loved the game and even mastered the time attack mode and 2-player head-to-head mode. The game was by far the best racing game for any platform. But years later I decided to move up in hardware power and bought a Dreamcast. When I got my hands on Sega Rally 2 and played the game it was just sick. As I cried on how bored I was and dissappointed in SEGA. The game lasted only 30 minutes in my house and then I took it straight to the pawn video game shop. I felt like I was playing the 32-bit pop-up Saturn on my 128-bit polygon monster house Dreamcast. The game is virtually the same as the Saturn version. No, there are no better graphics and the sound is not memorable. The only new features are the 16 tracks and about 12 new cars which are all about the same except for looks. The thing that irritated me the most was the excessive drop in fram rate from 60 to about 30. It stays in the 30 fram rate zone about 3/4ths of the time. I was yelling at my system to make-up its mind on what is it going to be 60 or 30 frams per second. Believe me it is very bothersome. All those people who give this game 90's or five stars are just doing this to make the dreamcast look like a good system and are probably paid by SEGA to cover up their terrible game. The Dreamcast is great, but not this game. Just save your money and wait for Crazy Taxi to come out for the dreamcast.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Rally Racing Game of Them All?, January 27, 2003
By
This review is from: Sega Rally 2 (Video Game)
When I heard that Sega Rally Championship 2 was coming out for Dreaamcast, I knew I had to have it. Let's be honest. No one makes arcade racers like SEGA (except maybe Namco). So when one of their best arcade racers comes home loaded with extras, you know you're in for treat.

To tell you the truth, I almost traded this game in right after I purchased it. Why? The arcade mode was unforgiving, and really just repeats itself after the first time. I thought I had been cheated. And then I tried the 10 year championship mode.

My oh my. The championship mode on this game has got to be one the greatest racing experiences that can be had on a game console. You have two view modes, both of them PERFECT. You have car customization, but not the boring, confusing, time wasting sort that has become common nowadays. You have SEGA arcade-style music, which I happen to love. You fantastic slip-and-slide physics which make controling the cars a blast. You have TONS of different variations on the race tracks (every one of them a perfect example of AWESOME track design). And lastly, you have some of the most beautiful graphics in any racing game ever. Honestly, the first time I raced a track at sunset, I was OVERJOYED that I didn't get rid of this game when I considered doing it. The most beautiful graphics in any racing game can (in my humble opinion) be found in the original Wipeout, and this game.

The only downside to this game is the simple fact that it's too hard. I simply CANNOT get past the 9th year in the 10 year championship. And forget about 1st place in arcade mode unless you're superman. But perhaps that's part of what makes this game so great. You keep coming back for one more go, because it's so darn fun and so darn hard. Better that than hard and not fun (I'm talking to you Nintendo). For arcade racing fans this game is an absolute must.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very good... until the 7th round, January 19, 2000

= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars

This game starts out very good, great graphics, good sound FX, (except for the voice of the annoying co-driver, AAAARRRRGGGGHHH). It starts out fairly simple and easy going, you might not place first, but you can advance fairly easily. But watch out after the 7th..... it goes down hill from there. It took me about 8 tries to beat the 7th round, then the 8th! FORGET ABOUT IT! The game suddenly becomes impossible! The last track of the 8th round is absolutely impossible to complete! It gives you like 28 seconds to get to the check point! I have yet to see it, and I've played the 8th round about 100 times! It made me so mad I haven't played it in a month! If you can put up with the crazy difficulty level then pick this up, if not... STAY AWAY!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Contender in the Racing Genre, December 12, 1999
By A Customer
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Sega Rally 2 (Video Game)
Just purchased Sega Rally 2 several days ago. I'm once again amazed with the graphical prowess of the Dreamcast. The physics model takes a little getting used to, but you get the hang of it in probably 30 minutes or less. The graphical details are phenomenal. Skid marks are accurate, and the vehicle gets dirty after racing on muddy courses. The headlights are also realistic. There is a relatively good variety of cars to choose from as well. There's a high replay value as you can experiment with virtually every aspect of your car. I personally think the game is great, but there seem to be others who do not. I would at least give it a shot.

Summary: Pros: Good graphics/details; Realistic Physics Cons: Music, Difficult on certain tracks ****

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Ever Racing Game, January 7, 2000
By A Customer
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Sega Rally 2 (Video Game)
By far the best racing game ever made.

Graphics are beautiful (with the exception of the 4 tracks taken from the previous Saturn version).

The car control is the most realistic of any racing game but might require adjustment for players not familiar with rallying racing techniques.

The 10 year championship is very challenging and makes this game last longer than other racing games.

The replay mode is spectacular and is as close to live TV as can be made on a game system.

Must-Have for racing fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Game..., July 16, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Sega Rally 2 (Video Game)
If you are a racing fan this is definitely the game for you! If you like racing but don't eat, sleep, or drink it then this is a must as you won't care about the details so much. THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST RALLY GAMES OUT THERE!! I haven't tried V-Rally yet but expect that it is just as good from all of the good reviews and seldom a critical one...

I would buy this if it was $25 but probably not more than that. ...

5.0 out of 5 stars Sega rally 2 kicks ass!, February 24, 2002

This review is from: Sega Rally 2 (Video Game)
Sega Rally 2 kicks ass! I bought mine for $5 and you guys are selling it for $9.99! You guys are pathetic! But enough about that, Sega Rally 2 gives you the highest performance of Rally Racing. The best racing game in dreamcast is Tokyo Extreme Racer, but this is second best! The hard part is getting 1st in all races and beating each year! Thats what makes it so fun and exciting!
