Like NFL 2K3, NBA 2K3 is presented in the patented ESPN style. The game has all the sights and sounds of the NBA: the pomp and circumstance of pregame introductions, accurate arena re-creations, realistic player animations and sizes, and fluid dribbling and shooting (including crossover moves and the ability to change shot direction in midair). All of this is accentuated with special touches such as alley-oops, tipped shots, the ability to make passes on the fly, fierce rebounding battles under the basket, and the added drama and excitement of the ball bouncing off the rim before it either falls in or goes awry.
NBA 2K3 offers a host of moves and modes on either side of the ball, with 25 offensive and 10 defensive plays from which to choose. Throw in fully customizable strategy options--everything from player clutch factor to computer shot tendencies, plus all types of shot percentages and fouls--and its easy to create the ideal matchup and game environment. The limitless roster manager feature also ensures that league and franchise modes will keep from getting stale.
Street mode offers a break from the grind of NBA play, allowing you to go two-on-two or all the way up to five-on-five in nine playgrounds and gyms. Pick your favorite players from current teams or choose greats from the '50s through the '80s and go at it as the Ballers vs. the Ringers. Street even features requisite trash talk such as "Yeah! You like that?" and grunts backed with "Get some!" --Larry White

WARNING: Gamecube Version CRASHES...Buy at your own risk!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sega Sports NBA 2K3 (Video Game)
I was really anticipating NBA 2K3. Unfortunately my experience has been marred by a GLITCH in the Gamecube version that freezes gameplay without warning. It is a hard crash that disables the use of Reset, you have to power down and then power back up. Some people only experience this glitch in Franchise mode, others like myself experience it in all game modes. It crashes about 1/3 of the time I play it.I have contacted Sega about the problem, and all they have to say is that the problem is widespread and random, that they are working on fixing it (?), and to check their messageboards for announcements. If you frequent any of the popular gamecube messageboards, every so often someone pipes up about it. Planet Gamecube mentions it in their review. I think there is growing tide of discontent targeted at Sega regarding this problem. Most probably return it for NBA Live 2003, while others are unable to return it (gift, etc.) I really feel that SEGA NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE, and take responsibility for these defective discs. I feel like they are sitting on their hands, praying that most will not recognize the glitch or just tolerate it. This is unacceptable, especially given that the Gamecube is widely known to be the easiest of the three 128-bit platforms to develop for. SEGA NEEDS TO COME CLEAN, AND DO AN OFFICIAL PRODUCT RECALL. THERE ARE ALSO RUMBLINGS OF THE PS2 VERSION HAVING A SIMILAR GLITCH. You have been warned! I say BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK! And make sure you keep your receipt! (if you have experienced this problem, don't keep quiet, contact/email Sega about it!)

What happened!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sega Sports NBA 2K3 (Video Game)
I've grown up on EA Sports games......from Lakers vs Celtics & The NBA Playoffs through the NBA Live games(Madden football, Triple Play baseball). They were always far above any of the others.....until I bought a Dreamcast and Sega's NBA 2K1.....then a Gamecube and NBA 2K2. 2K2 is the best basketball game I have ever played!!!!!!! 2K1 is easily in second place. No doubt about it. So naturally I bought 2K3 the day it came out. Much to my suprise it is not nearly as good as 2K2. I have only played it 2 times...the first day I bought it. It is slower, the moves are not nearly as fluid/natural as on 2K2, the graphics, though better, are somewhat annoying at times(such as glare from the court and cameras in the crowd), the dunks do not look nearly as real, posting up is not as fun, getting in the passing lane for steals is more difficult/non-realistic, the menu screens are overdone.......the gameplay is way below the standard set with 2K2. I am very disappointed! The only thing that really interests me about this game is that it you will be able to import your college b-ball lineups from the upcoming Sega NCAA Basketball 2K3 game.....not enough for me though. NBA Live 2003(though I hated Live 2002 on PS2 for a lot of the same reasons mentioned above) is in the mail and on it's way to my house....hopefully it provides better results. We'll see which one ends up on Ebay in a week....or maybe I'll go back to 2K2 until they work out these problems. I do not care how good a game looks....ultimately it comes down to how it plays. 2K3 is not worth my playing time.

Ok, for all those people who aren't good at playing video games and would like to stick to the unrealistic NBA live 2003 where it takes you 3 seconds to get down court, stay off this game. NBA 2k3 is a great game. I could do the franchise mode all day! There is great graphics, and great gameplay. The ESPN setting makes it even better. For sega sports fans this is a great buy!
