An education about Communist Poland,
By
This review is from: Segment 76 (DVD)
Communism made life in Poland during the 1970's quite difficult. Obtaining everyday goods, such as meat, fruit or even furniture, was a struggle due to governmental regulations and the lack of local resources. People had to wait in line for hours for everything. Working hard did not help anyone get one ahead in life because that wasn't the way communism worked. In order to get ahead, one had to smuggle and sell goods on the side. "Segment '76" is an enjoyable comedy about these ridiculous events and a man that schemes to beat the system.
The story is captivating and unusual, as this is a relatively new film (2003) about life in the 1970's Poland. It captures the 70's feel, but includes several modern twists (you will know them when you see them). I also believe the movie shows an artistic flair and provides several humorous moments. "Segment '76" is an education about Communist Poland. One doesn't need to know much more about those times than what I have explained to understand the premise for the film, and to enjoy the humor in the film.
