Insightful and Revealing,

I give this book a high rating because it gives a very personal insight into Andres Segovia, a man who still engenders passionate discussion by friends and foes. It also is a very personal glimpse into a creative friendship that lasted a lifetime. Unfortunately, only the letters that Segovia wrote to Ponce were preserved for posterity. But these letters give personal insights into the inner Segovia that would never have been revealed in (Segovia's) interviews with the press, etc. Not all of these insights represent a perfect human by any means- Segovia was, as are all of us, a product of his times and place. However, his energy, devotion, artistry and achievements are awe-inspiring. Worth reading.
