Please don't be shocked Segovia's performance as usual is impeccable and I rate his playing as 5 stars, but everything else that has to do with the "hardware" i.e. of this CD is unacceptable; hence the 3 stars.

The reasons for the undervaluation are: The tracks listing are almost illegible; they are printed in faded white ink on a glossy light-green background. In order to read it ,even partly, one has to do acrobatics , change the orientation of the page to a certain angle which aluminates the printing list a bit better , but during this manipulation one has also to strain one's neck ,to be in a position to read it... or maybe it's just my copy that is acting funny. The troubles aren't over yet, this is a historic compilation which contains Segovia's early recordings, and it could have been beneficial to state the dates of these recordings for following up change in technique patterns and interpretation during Segovia's long life span. The information cited inside this "booklet" is inaccurate:"...after being hopelessly entranced by the sound of flamenco guitar strummed by passing gypsies".Actually it's rather the opposite; Segovia stated on numerous occasions, as in the video of "Segovia in Los Olivos", that his main mission was to rescue the guitar from the flamenco players.
Regarding the "software" namely the music, there are some tracks that contain a low background hissing, due to old recording equipment. I wonder if it could be filtered out without noticeable damage to the sound. The musical pieces are vigorously played and have much quicker tempi than Segovia's later recordings. Nevertheless each tempi has its own charms, the slower latter recordings emphasize the singing ability of the guitar therefore the same musical pieces become more lyrical.
