Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Sharpen your spelling skills and refine your literary chops with the Seiko WP1010 electronic spell checker, which combines a portable English-language spelling corrector with a variety of conversion functions and games. Simply input a word as you think it should be spelled, and the WP1010 will search its 110,000-word database of American and British English words for a match. If it doesn't find the exact word, the unit will take several "educated guesses" based on similar spellings. The WP1010 can also correct phonetic spelling errors--words that sound like they should be spelled one way but are actually spelled quite differently. Just enter a word "as it sounds" and the spell checker will suggest real words based on phonetic equivalents.

Plus, the WP1010 makes learning fun, with 10 word games and three skill levels (beginner, intermediate, and advanced) to keep you sharp. The games range from traditional favorites like Hangman, Jumble, and Memory to crossword-related puzzles like Crossword Quiz and Crossword Solver to speed tests like Against the Clock. And should you come across a word that confuses you at a specific point--such as the vowel mishmash in "bivouac"--simply enter the wild card mode. The function lets you enter a question mark at the point of confusion and then offers several suggested completions. The wild card mode is particularly handy when solving tough crossword puzzles.

Though the WP1010 is primarily a spelling corrector, it also includes a built-in calculator that adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides numbers as large as 12 digits long. Other convenient extras include a series of automatic conversion and reference tables, including conversion from your home currency (U.S. dollars or U.K. pounds) to other currencies, metric conversion, and clothing size comparative tables for men, women, and children.

Additional features include a 20-character display, a demo mode, and an adjustable screen contrast. The WP1010 runs for roughly 1,000 hours on a single CR2032 battery and measures 4.17 by 2.76 by 0.51 inches (W x H x D). It's also backed by a one-year warranty on parts and labor.

This review is from: Seiko Electronic Spell Checker (WP1010) (Electronics)
Several years ago I had purchased this same spell checker and used it almost daily for a few years. It finally quit working and I searched high and low for the same one. Found it and was quite excited to finally get it. After only about 3-4 months the screen got real light and the script was not solid but missed a lot of the pixels and was unable to be read. Unless I got a bad one, these Seiko spell checkers have really become a piece of junk.
