A very pretty clock,

I bought this clock because I was tired of trying to keep wind-up, chiming clocks running. I think it is very pretty, with a slightly "art deco" look to it and I love the night silencer feature, which saves on the battery. Although I gave it five stars, it does have a few things I don't like too well. I'm not too fond of the way the door in the back opens, but I suppose it does keep you from having trouble with hinges. I would prefer it to be a little taller. It's only slightly over a foot tall and I'd like 3-5 more inches. The face is difficult to read if you are very far away from it and the pendulum swings faster than I like. But those are all cosmetic things that not everyone would have issue with. The chimes are a great feature and there is a choice between Westminster and Whittington, which is nice. There is not the resonant, beautiful sound of real, wind-up clock chimes, but they are pretty enough and you won't have the problem of dust getting in the works and messing up the chime count. It chimes on the quarter hour, too, which is more than I expected. All in all, it's a well-made clock and since it's a Seiko, it should last for years.

This review is from: Seiko Mantel Chime with Pendulum Dark Clock (Watch)
I just received this mantel clock 2day, after quite some time searching amazon, as well as other sites 4 the "perfect" replacement for my hundred yr old seth thomas mantel clock...I settled on this one because it is the most similar in style to the antique, & appeared well-made; i know its just a sham of the other's former beauty and character. Clocks like that are almost alive, with their bushings and gears....but with all that comes problems; the eventual slowing down, and need 4 costly regular professional maintaince, & the incovenience and waiting for repairs to be done...i finally resolved to give it up & see if i could find a quartz battery-powered that i could live with...even an 'aficionado' like me can feel good with this one...its a commanding size, & the style is fun, blending well...it also had features my classic did not have, for all the former's fine resonance...i finally have the option to hear the whittington chime, the less familiar chime than the usual westminister, & i believe i will keep it there for a while, a nice change; also the quarter hr chimes are nice, something ive always wanted...does it sound like the real thing? most people wouldnt know the difference...there is nice hollowness to it, and u cant beat having volume control!...and the lower i set it, it seems to sound more authentic (tho it took some trial and error 2 get that right...on the way 2 getting it 2 sound as softly as i wanted it, it kept stopping chiming al2gether, even when i knew i hadnt turnd the vol dial all the way 2 off..seemed as if changing the volume deactivated the chime altog...i tried flipping the chime selection button from one to the other, then removing and replacing the battery...seems i finally stumbled upon the solution...tho i wont be making any more changes...other than that little annoyance, this seems to be a fine, handsome clock that will prob last decades without a single adjustment...at last
