Best for younger eyes -- or reading glasses (i.e. get the black one!), September 23, 2009

I own many watches. I bought this exact model based on internet pictures. It is every bit as gorgeous in person as it is in pictures -- but the combination of silver hands on a silver background does not work well in many lighting conditions. There have been times when I have to concentrate to tell the time (hey, I'm not that old yet!). The main function of a watch is to tell the time and I think this should be relatively effortless.
Mechanically and cosmetically the watch is very strong. Excellent fit and finish and good accuracy for a mechanical watch...which is to say not amazing accuracy but perfectly serviceable. Since I have many watches I tend to change them around fairly often. This Seiko's accuracy is less a factor than the +/- 1 minute error introduced by casually setting your watch.
Another problem -- the deployment clasp and band (while excellent quality) are designed for wrists far larger than mine. In an attempt to ensure that NFL lineman can wear this watch they made it so big it almost laps my wrist. And unlike a linked bracelet or a regular strapped watch it is very hard to adjust because you can't remove links and/or punch additional holes. And I am 6 ft and 240#... smaller men should think twice.
Final verdict: A beautiful and well made watch that I don't wear very much because of the hard to read dial and awkward deployment clasp. If I had to do it all over again I would certainly buy the same watch with the black face rather than the silver.
I give it a high score of 4 stars because the silver face was no surprise or error on their part. I got exactly what I saw and purchased. It's just that you are not always in studio-photographic lighting conditions.

Seiko Premier Self Winding Watch Model SPB003J1, June 17, 2009
This review is from: Seiko Men's Watches Premier SPB003J - WW (Personal Computers)
I own many watches. This watch has become one of my favorites. It is very accurate and so far has lost about 2 seconds a day. Not bad for a self winding mechanical watch. I enjoy looking at this watch. The attention to visual detail and artistic design never fails to impress me. Many watches are made with a number of visual complications that often tend to just look cluttered and do little for the functionality of the watch. That is not the case with this Seiko watch. Every function is laid out nicely, has a useful purpose, and is acomplished with artistic integrity. It is a self winder that allows manual winding. I find this to be a nice feature. The leather band is as high quality as the rest of the watch. I am very satisfied with this watch and expect to get many years of use from it.
