We purchased this clock to replace a cheap schoolhouse clock that died. That size and style of clock was perfect for the space and it's what we were used to, so after looking at several other styles we decided it was best to just get another schoolhouse type. Seiko is a great brand so we felt that the quality would be good. I didn't care so much about the chime since we already have a large chiming pendulum key-wind clock, but I decided that if I liked the chime on this clock better then I'd turn off the chime on the other one.

Well, I have to admit the chime on this clock is OK but not as nice as the deep, melodious chime on my larger clock so I've got this one turned off. It is nice that you have a choice of 2 different chimes, and it may be just the tone you like. But in my particular case it just couldn't compete with the much more expensive clock I already had.

Having said that, the clock is very pretty and the dark brown oak case looks rich and expensive. It keeps excellent time. It's not close enough to the living room for me to particularly notice if the pendulum swings faster than it seems like it should so I can't say I have any problems with that. I give it 5 stars, since I couldn't take of 1/2 a star for the chime not sounding as good as my other clock. Still, that isn't a flaw in the clock - just a matter of my personal preference for the sound of another clock I already had. But it seems to be a good quality clock with 2 choices of chimes so I don't think you'll go wrong if you buy this.

just as advertised a nice clock.good quality, loud chime. back is hard to get off to adjust clock. controls are not well marked and hard to use if you have fat fingers. but all in all worth the price.

Needed a replacement for a similar designed wall clock that lost ability to keep time. The Seiko wall clock had a nicer clock face with a working pendulum. Little disappointed in the chime tone, as the chime was a different pitch and different rhythm, but it keeps good time, chiming on the hour or whatever setting it is on.

I've owned one of these for 17 years. I was inspired to buy a wood wall clock with a pendulum by my mother's cuckoo clock. I knew my husband wouldn't go for the cuckoo, and it did have to be wound every day. Also I love the look of grandfather clocks, but I didn't want something that heavy, and grandfather clocks use floor space.

I went shopping and it was love at first sight. I saw some beautiful clocks, and some cost a lot more, but this was it. It's a classic, beautiful clock with large, clear numbers. It keeps time beautifully. It's never off. You do have to change the time in spring and fall. It's not computerized.

I love the chimes, too, and you can adjust the volume and even set them to not ring at night. The clock doesn't run on the pendulum. Set it swinging when you mount it and it keeps swinging. It's a bit boxy to handle, but it's not too heavy. You don't need to mount it over a stud. You can just use a picture hanger. There's a durable hanging ring on the back of this clock.

I truly prize this clock, and there aren't that many things I cherish, because things can't love you back. The price is about the same now as it was when I bought it, and I freaked about it, but it's been worth every penny. So useful and beautiful! What a great wedding or housewarming gift!

What are the dimensions on this clock?? We have a schoolhouse clock that is quite big, but no longer works. This looks like what we need, but does not give dimensions in description.

We needed to replace a wall clock that we received as a weddding present 30 years ago. Really happy with this purchase. Extremely easy to set time and select options for the chime. Various set-up options including chime volume control and sleep mode to reduce the chime volume during the night. Time has been spot on. Clock finish and exterior is well done. Very satisfied.
