When you buy a Seiko timepiece, you don't really have to worry about it working properly and keeping good time -- so really, it's just a question of finding one that appeals to your eye. And to me, this watch is close to perfect. The round, off-white face and Roman numerals are a joy to look at. Elegant and understated, this watch's style is timeless. The band is also beautiful, even nicer than it appears in Amazon's product photos, and very comfortable on my wrist. If this watch appeals to you, I can't recommend it highly enough.

A word of warning: the numerals on this watch are navy blue, NOT BLACK as they appear (at least to me) in the photos. I was surprised by this, but not bothered; you, however, may feel differently.

My wife bought this for me for our 8th wedding anniversary. (it was in my Wish List) However, the review will not include any sentimental stuff.

I am a watch collector, so keep this in mind while reading the review.

+ Thin; easily slides under shirt and coat cuffs

+ Not too big; 34mm (1.35") case diameter, not including crown is perfect for a dress watch. I see that one chucklehead marked it down for being "small" even though the spec. is published. This is the size of dress watch that men work in about the 1960s. Typical women's watches are 25mm, but some women like larger ones.

+ No seconds hand. On a dress watch, a seconds hand doesn't have much of a purpose, in my opinion. Maybe if you're a doctor or nurse... On a dress watch with thin hands, the seconds hand just impedes quick visibility.

+ Gold plated, so it matches most wedding rings

+ Gold color and cream dial are elegant, but without being chunky and making me look like a mobster.

+ Breguet hands; I love this hand shape

    - The strap is a little cheap. It is fake crocodile, (vinyl) made in China, but with a soft, genuine leather lining. So it is comfortable, and it looks good, but it just feels cheap. If it were on a bracelet, the bracelet would have folded links that would pull one's arm hair, so this is preferable. Nevertheless, If you want this watch to be all it can be, invest in a 100% leather aftermarket strap that costs at least $25. I like to buy from the watchprince store online.

I'm giving this watch 5 stars despite a couple of minor cost-saving issues, because at this price, it is a great value. It looks sharp, is accurate, reliable, and classy.

This is a fine watch. I've gotten plenty of compliments. Runs great, easy to set, easy to wear. The quality of the arm band is exceptional. Very pleased with the price for the quality of the instrument. Can be worn casually or for formal events.

My 88-year-old father hinted that he needed a new watch for his birthday, and preferred one with roman numerals. Since my circa 1983 Seiko still looks and runs fine, it didn't take me long to select this one for him. Dad says it's "perfect." It's thin, light, elegant looking, and keeps perfect time so far. The only slightly negative thing is that the calendar number is very small, and pushed right up against the number III. But my Dad doesn't seem to mind. An excellent timepiece for the price.

I wanted a new watch that was simple, clean and classic looking. I a wanted a watch that thin and unobtrusive, and a leather band as well, but not overly small, either. I was concerned after looking at quite a few watches on the Amazon site that this watch might be a bit small as the case was listed as being 34mm in size. Other watches shown on amazon were often shown with the measurements in a picture and it appeared that the case size in those pictures included the arms connecting the band, suggesting that the case was perhaps less than 30mm in actual size--something like the size of a postage stamp. That is too small--I don't want to have to squint to read my watch! But when I put it on, it was a good size, 34mm being the true diameter of the actual dial case. It looks like a man's size watch without being overly large. I was looking for a watch, after all, not for a piece of bling. Since it is only 6mm high, it doesn't weigh much and is very comfortable on my wrist--I barely know if I am wearing it. The watch face has a classic old time clock style with the old-time hands that are very easy to read, and the Roman numerals easy to read and looks stylish, as well. The black hands and numerals stand out nicely against the beige color of the face. It was precisely what I wanted and very different from the usual watch faces that you see from every watch manufacturer. I own other watches from Tag and Rolex which have larger faces and heavy metal bands, but I can't say that I enjoy wearing them more than I do this watch, which keeps time just as well and doesn't feel like a brick strapped to my wrist.

Additionally, the strap is a length meant for a man's wrist.
