So let me begin by saying that I'm a bit of a watch collector. I own a few automatics, and a few quartz ones as well. What I was really on the hunt for is a black leather strap dress watch with a blue face, and I kinda had my heart set on acquiring an Omega De Ville Hour Vision at a discounted price. However, that watch is a special edition, limited run model that runs 6 grand. At this stage in my life, 6 grand is probably better utilized if deposited into college savings accounts for my kids, rather than for yet another watch for dear old Dad. Also, at 41mm case diameter, that watch is simply a tad large for my wrist. Enter the Seiko Men's Solar watch with blue face. This watch is simply beautiful. It has a very classic, simple design; has a beautiful, yet understated, blue face with nice silver accents; and looks great dressed up with a suit or even dressed down with a nice pair of dark denim jeans. I classed my Seiko up a bit more by adding a Modena Watch 18mm Premium Push Button Deployant [ASIN:B003Y5BZ1Q Modena Watch 18mm Premium Push Button Deployant / Deployment clasp / buckle - Polished Stainless Steel]]. See photos I've uploaded. The Modena is a great buckle, and the polished silver finish of the buckle perfectly compliments the finish of the watch. (I highly recommend adding a deployant buckle to any leather watch band as it makes the band last considerably longer.) While the Seiko Solar does not have an automatic movement and the sweep second hand characteristic of automatics, which I prefer, it is solar powered and should technically never need a new power source - as long as the sun keeps shining! The watch is also fairly quiet, and one can only here it ticking if you place your ear right up to the watch. Again, the Seiko Men's Solar with blue face is a beautiful watch, and I recommend it without reservation.

I am a senior in high school (Don't mind the name) and was looking for my first "real" watch for formal/dressy wear. As a cross country runner, I am not a particularly muscular/large guy, and my wrists are also small, so many of the 40mm+ watches that are seen in the market did not appeal to me. After some research I narrowed it down to a couple Citizens and Seikos. A couple deciding factors on this watch:

    1) Size. At 37mm this watch doesn't overwhelm my wrist. Maybe it's just me, but I prefer watches that don't look like they could double as a blunt weapon.

    2) Styling. I'm pretty conservative and minimalist in terms of watch styling. The deep blue face adds a little spice to the classic dress watch look, and the day/date function is useful but not overly distracting.

    3) Function. What's probably the best part about this watch is its solar feature. No need to take it in to the shop for a battery change. The small luminous dots above the indices and the luminous hand settings seem to work fine and are clear and visible in the dark.

    4) Versatility. I don't have the money for multiple watches, but this one can be used in both a formal and more casual setting. I'm thinking about getting a nylon band to switch out with the included leather. Problem solved.

    5) Cost. Very appealing to a high school student with no source of income other than the occasional odd job. Even at full price it's a very good deal.

Bottom line: If you're looking for a conservative, versatile, affordable dress watch, be sure to consider this one.

This is a nice watch, no doubt. But it was not as pictured, or described. The watch face which looks like a nice dark blue on the picture, actually turned out to be a grey blue, almost purplish. Not attractive at all to me. Also the description says deployment clasp with push button. That is not what comes on this watch, which would have been great, instead it's just a buckle. Yes, the day function is in english and spanish, you just need to turn the handle one way to set date, and the other way to set day. Once you set it in one language it stays in that language.

This watch is large enough to be easy to read while not being too bulky or heavy. I really like the styling of it, too. Being solar powered, there are no batteries to replace and, for all practical purposes, no maintenance; that's what I like: no hassles and no additional expense after buying the watch! I have a Japanese Casio solar powered "computer match calculator" that still works perfectly after 20+ years so I feel confident the recharging system will last a long time.

The watch is just heavy enough to feel as though it has some heft and quality without being too heavy. The leather band is excellent and seems to be of very high quality and durability. The watch comes needing a charge, since it has been in that dark box quite awhile. 5 minutes in bright sunlight and it's good to go - it'll pick up the additional charge through normal light and usage - or just leaving it out in ambient light when not wearing it. It keeps perfect time. I like the second hand, too, that clicks to each second rather than just having a constant sweeping movement.

The Weekdays are in both Spanish and English. If you set your weekday in English, it stays English; setting in Spanish presumably makes it stay in Spanish (I didn't try that). It is relatively simple to set, though you do need to read and follow the directions to do that - it's just a little bit tricky.

My only complaint on the watch is that is not waterproof to some degree; it would seem that any modern watch would have that feature. This watch warns that it is OK for the occasional splash, but it should never be submerged.

While the dial is luminous - it isn't for very long so unless it has been in the light within a very short time period, the luminous marks don't show up.
