4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice - as expected
Works and looks great - very useful features -the only reason I gave it a 4 is, that it should be a little larger in diameter (they always look sooo nice and BIG in the ads), the bezel takes away space which is GOOD looking, but too small to work with. The digital displays are VERY nice and large enough for even someone with less than 20/20, like this retired pilot, who...

3.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't support all time zones :(
I really wish that I had done proper research before buying this watch from Amazon.com

This watch is not a true "world time" watch because it does not support all time zones. I live in India which has time +5:30 hours from the GMT. The timezone of my country does not appear in this watch.

Although I can use this watch, most of the features (like...

4.0 out of 5 stars seiko world time flight, February 23, 2007
I am a helicopter pilot in the army, and I just got this watch after scrutinizing many other choices. It has the best E6-b as far as accuracy and durability than any other I've looked at, including all the Citizens, Torgoen, Hamilton, and Pulsar. This was important to me because my eyes are still good enough to actually use it. It is big, but not ridiculus, and heavy. Looks and feels good, and I really like the fact that I still get perpetual day and date with a flight computer. Great value for the price, I got it for $235. The only downside is the lack of good lighting on it. There is no background light for the digital display, and the lumibrite for the analog is a for cry from the tritium hands on my Luminox.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love it but the digital part will last for only 7 years, November 22, 2007
This review is from: Seiko Men's SNJ017 Analog Digital World Time Flight Chronograph Watch (Watch)
I love it as I saw it on Amazon. I couldn't resist not to buy it so I bought. I spent couple hours read manuals on how to use slide rule and functions. I found that the digital part of this watch will last about 7 years from the manual. that disappointed me the most but other than that it's really great looking watch. The face should be alittle bit bigger. The buttons are easily be accidentally pushed. I love it though. eventhough i have only seven years to enjoy it. Ohh. Slide rule is so hard to use, even i'm an engineer. I think I get use to using scientific calculator. Buy it if you love it at first sight like me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Typical Seiko Quality and Value, May 30, 2008
This review is from: Seiko Men's SNJ017 Analog Digital World Time Flight Chronograph Watch (Watch)
I bought this after checking out other watches with the E6B calculator. I have high end watches (Omega, Rolex, etc.) but wanted a world timer that I would not be afraid to lose or get damaged. The watch is typical of SEIKO quality and value for all of their products. For the money, you just can't go wrong. I agree with other reviewers that a back light would be nice, but at this price point I don't think that it should prevent you from getting this watch.

The instructions (while initially a little confusing) were clear enough to get the watch set properly and to use all of the timing and calendar functions. The separate E6B slide rule instructions were quite clear and easy to follow.

One criticism (albeit a minor one) is that occasionally the "Alarm" chime on/off button will accidentally get pushed. So far this has not presented any problems. Accuracy is again up to Seiko quartz watch standards.

The watch is definitely a looker, and while a few mm larger than my Omega GMT, is not cumbersome on the wrist. The stainless steel band is beefy, and well made. It is generously sized, and I had to remove two links in order for it to fit properly.

The crystal is flat, and appears to be a mineral crystal coated with Seiko's coating for scratch resistance. The dial and hands are very legible, as well as all printing on the face as well as on the slide rule bezel. The rotating bezel is smooth, clearly marked, easy to rotate, and is a pleasing dark grey IP colour. It appears that in typical SEIKO fashion, the band is a 22mm size. I think the watch would look great on a Breitling style leather band.

As another reviewer noted, the instructions do indicate a limited (seven year) typical life-span for the LCD displays. I suspect that SEIKO probably has understated the LCD life-span just to be conservative.

As far as utility as a "pilots" watch, most flight decks are equipped with far more accurate clocks and systems for calculating fuel consumption, climb, etc. Therefore, this watch is what I would call a flight style watch with limited usefulness in todays aircraft. Most private pilots have a separate E6B circular slide rule for manual calculations that is far easier to read than that supplied on the bezel of this watch.

I did not give this watch a 5 star rating, as the predicted battery life (according to the manual) is only two years, the limited life of the LCD display, and the fact that there are other watches in the $ 4,000 to $ 7,000 price range that very easily deserve a 4.5 or a 5.0 rating. However, in this price range, this watch cannot be beat.

I recommend shopping aggressively for this watch, as there was a spread of sometimes around $ 200 from one e-tailer to the next. All-in-all, a great looking and accurate watch. Very highly recommended.

Correction: The watch takes a 21 mm band (unusual) but will work OK with a 20 mm band. I recently put on an Ostrich band (21 mm) with SS deployant clasp, and it looks great. The Seiko SS band is a little overpowering for this watch, but it looks OK with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Aviator watch, July 28, 2007
This review is from: Seiko Men's SNJ017 Analog Digital World Time Flight Chronograph Watch (Watch)
I am very pleased with this World Time Aviator watch. I have several Seiko dress watches and was looking for one to wear daily for work. I travel alot and the features on this watch are exactly what I was looking for. With analog and digital readouts it is simple to hop timezones with ease. The only thing I wish the watch had was a backlit display, but other than that I am more than pleased. Amazon was extremely easy to deal with and offered the lowest price for this watch anywhere.

The fit and finish is top grade. Since its a high end Seiko quartz caliber you don't have to worry about accuracy and precision if the watch is adjusted properly at a certified Seiko dealer/service shop.

It was hard to set the time precisely according to some atomic clock time, but once you get it set the next time you will have to set this watch is when the battery gets replaced.

The only problem I have with it is when you spend this much money, where is the dial backlight? Timex and Armitron watches etc. are fractions of the price and just about all of their watches have some form of backlight. Why won't the "high end" wach companies step up to the plate?

5.0 out of 5 stars pilot-style par exellance, July 29, 2008

I bought this watch to look good, work reliably, display Zulu time, show the day and date, function as a stopwatch occasionally, and once in a blue moon perform slide-rule calculations on the built in E6B. So far so good, it is a solid value. The programming of multiple time zones is simple and getting to the proper mode is never a problem. The mode buttons are large and handsome, and the SNJ017 feels well-made and looks as if care was taken to insure the metal surfaces are correct and the finish is consistent. The band has a solid look and feel as well, and the band latch works smoothly. Taking a link out of the band to suit your wrist requires a jewelers screwdriver to punch the pins out, and some instructions would have be nice, but even without instructions the task is something an owner can do without too much trouble. The watch is quite heavy, be aware of that if you prefer a lightweight watch. The competition for this product is the Citizen pilot watch, but the latter does not offer the nice digital functions this one does. Everything has its negatives and the one I would offer for this watch is fact it lacks electrical illumination. It has glow in the dark, so you won't miss that feature in most cases but it is unusual for a modern watch not to have electric lighting. I am pleased with this Seiko and pleased by JustCalculators whom I bought it from.

3.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't support all time zones :(, December 17, 2008

This review is from: Seiko Men's SNJ017 Analog Digital World Time Flight Chronograph Watch (Watch)
I really wish that I had done proper research before buying this watch from Amazon.com

This watch is not a true "world time" watch because it does not support all time zones. I live in India which has time +5:30 hours from the GMT. The timezone of my country does not appear in this watch.

Although I can use this watch, most of the features (like time transfer) will not work for me because of the lack of partial timezone support.

The description of this watch does not say that all time zones are not supported. But if you enlarge the picture you should be able to see if your timezone is supported by this watch or not.

I hope you don't make the same mistake as I did when buying this watch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great timepiece, December 20, 2008
This review is from: Seiko Men's SNJ017 Analog Digital World Time Flight Chronograph Watch (Watch)
This the ultimate in chronograph watches. It's easy to set for the time zone or country you're in and it keeps perfect time. It goes with anything you wear and, as they say, "You can tell a lot about a man by the watch he wears".

4.0 out of 5 stars Women's opposite, Looks & function good only during daylight, March 21, 2010
This review is from: Seiko Men's SNJ017 Analog Digital World Time Flight Chronograph Watch (Watch)
Pros: Well Built, Nice looking watch, Accurate, beautiful Band, but not worth the $603.00 price tag through AMAZON. This Model is discontinued by Seiko, but you can search for better price online(I Paid $261.00 From Blue Dial) still some places have it for even less.

Cons: No back light for the digits (that cost the rating 1 star) what were they thinking, batteries? hell I'll replace the batteries to have a back light, what's the big deal?. In the Dark you can only see the Hours and Minutes Hands, and they fade pretty quickly, you cannot check the Alarm or any Digital function unless you are in a lighted area, if you fly in a dark military plane, or don't wanna wake up a sleeping passenger next to you by turning on the light, this ain't the watch for you. Setting the watch is not that simple and unpractical. No Instructions for the sliding rule (SL) (SL numbers too small), but, you can Youtube that, no bigy, and finally something that affects some people who live in the Fraction time zone, NOT supported.

For $260.00 the Watch is great and deserves the 4 stars based on the $260.00 price, if I paid $603.00 my rating would have been 3 stars.

I do recommend the watch for it's looks and quality, and not for it's functionality. If you find it for less than $300.00 it's a fair price, but for the price tag of $603.00 at Amazon NOOOOOOOOOO way Jose.
