I have many high end expensive watches but when it comes to traveling or during rough activities I prefer to leave them at home and wear a beater one. Quartz watches aren't an option to me, therefore the obvious beater watch is Seiko, they are the Gshock of automatic watches. I bought this specific model over the regular black/green/blue/beige because its an Amazon Only Seiko, this color can't be found anywhere else. I have a 6'5 wrist and been wearing it for a day now. To make this easier for your i will write the pros and cons bellow.

Pros:
-Cheapest & most reliable Japanese automatic
-Exclusivity (if you are a WIS or just crazy about exclusive/limited edition products)
-Color combo makes it unique
-Strap is nylon which makes it versatile and water proof and its a good alternative to nato and easier as well
-See through case back, which is uncommon on less expensive automatic watches
-Size is classic and makes it a comfy one for small wrists as well as big wrists
-Military style hands and dial
-Dial has hours as well as minute numbers
-Day and date window
-Matte finished case and buckle which makes it less vulnerable to scratches

Cons:
-Around the center of hands and around the day/date window there are darker shade of red which gives you the impression of bad paint job OR it could make an even better look (vintage military worn watch)
-Don't expect much from the luminous, which is only fair since the hands aren't fat and numbers has no luminous
-The color could get you bored after awhile since it doesn't go with all outfits/occasion

The black version is the most sold piece on amazon but still i would choose the red one especially since its my fun time watch. So it all depends on how and where do you want to wear this piece.

I really like the looks of this watch! I sent one back due to it not staying wound overnight while not wearing it. The new one stopped after 15 hrs of inactivity and I started to send it back, also. I read through all of the positive reveiws for the watch and no one mentioned this problem, so I thought maybe I was doing something wrong. I shook it for 2 or 3 minutes and put it on and have had no more problems with it! Was gonna buy a watch winder, but they cost more than the watch! I decided that I'll tape it to my wife's lower jaw, since it never stops moving.

Great watch. I'm just kind of sad that you can't wear it under the shower, per the user manual. But otherwise, great value.

EDIT:
- 1 cons: thinking about it, the watch looks like a toy for a little boy... Maybe replacing the wristband with a metal one could help.
- 1 pros: it is VERY accurate: it's running about 1 second ahead of time a day (COCS certification is -4/+6 sec a day).

This is a beautiful watch and a great value. It's a stainless-steel construction with an automatic Japanese movement. The back is see-through so you can watch (ha ha) some of the action. On the front is the beautiful, brilliant red face that includes some very nice detailing. If you inspect it closely all the little details look high quality and shiny. The day/date display is very nice and more accurate (requires less adjustments) than my previous Timex. The day/date info is also set perfectly within the display window, something that didn't always happen with other watches I have owned. The stainless steel case has a brushed / matte style to it, so it's not shiny, but I think it looks better this way. Lastly is the nice fabric band that is a beautiful blue color that perfectly compliments the other colors used in the piece. Altogether it's an awesome watch and a great value. It comes in a nice little box secured around a mini Seiko branded pillow… Not much I can do with that, but I enjoyed the novelty of it nonetheless. The only way this watch doesn't have is a sapphire crystal, and while I'm sure the hardlex material is sturdy enough, I plan on having a jeweler upgrade it to Sapphire. Bottom line is it looks great and I love it, and it has most of the things you'd look for in a decent low-cost watch.

This is a great buy for the money. The watch is light and the colors are great for casual wear. I've had great luck with Seiko watches in the past, but all of them had been kinetic watches. This is my first Seiko automatic watch and it keeps time incredibly well. In fact, I think it keeps time better than a Tag Heuer automatic watch I have and it does so at a fraction of the price. The day is bilingual, meaning it states the day in both English and Spanish. Whichever one you set it to, it keeps that language as the default, although the day might in the other language for a short time in the very early hours of the morning.

To me, this watch is a steal for the price you get it at.

I had ordered the same watch in a different color about a year ago. It kept horrible time so I returned it. I decided to try again with this watch because I love the color and the idea of a mechanical watch still intrigues me. This watch has kept perfect time since Christmas - that's 17 days now. Love it!

Love the red color of the watch! Having purchased all the other colors of this watch I was thrilled yet another color to add to my collection. This is a very functional yet stylish watch and the size is not as large as most automatic watches. As always Seiko makes a quality watch!

I don't often write reviews, but seeing some negative comments about this watch lead me to throw in my 2 cents worth. I have been a collector of automatic watches for decades. And I have some Seiko 5's in that collection, all of which are good watches. However this particular Seiko 5 is by far the best of the lot. I received this watch February 6, 2015 and have been wearing it every day since. The accuracy is amazing. Keep in mind that automatic watches are not known for their accuracy. But this watch is one of the most accurate automatic timepieces I own. And I have many more expensive high end automatics. This one really surprised me. Since February 6th I have only reset the time on this watch twice. It is almost as accurate as quartz watches. It was so good I have bought several more for gifts and put a few away if this one should ever die, because I like the very unique red face. Of course with Amazon you really have to watch the price. In the last 3 months the price has been as low as $59 and as high as $139. I have always believed the real advantage to automatic (self-winding as some call it) watches is never having to open the case. As anyone who knows watches understands, every time you open the case back to change a battery in a quartz watch, you lose the factory tight seal and risk introducing moisture and dust, enemy #1 of all watches. Resetting the seal can be very tricky and nearly impossible for untrained hands. There should never be a reason to break that seal on an inexpensive automatic Seiko 5. If it should ever fail, throw it away and buy a new one because the cost to repair will be more than the $59 it cost to buy new. Though, in all the years I have been collecting, I have never had a Seiko 5 fail. They are amazingly durable and dependable watches. And did I mention I love the color? All one shade of red throughout. The color in the pictures on Amazon are accurate. Fire engine red! If you like red you'll love it too! Happy shopping!

This watch looks and runs great. The Amazon exclusive "red dial blue mesh strap" is very cool and really stands out from the other color combinations of this watch. It is so light you hardly know it is on your wrist.

I bought my first of these Seiko 5 Automatics nearly 5 years ago and love them! I wear one of them daily and usually rotate between colors every few months or to match clothes. They are accurate and rugged watches that look good with a canvas/nylon strap or even when dressed up with a leather band. The matte finish on the bezel gives these a subtle and sophisticated look no matter what the occasion. With this purchase I was able to complete my collection of every color. One thing to note, is that in the picture the face looks like it's painted with a flat red, which would comport with the finish on the other colors, but to my surprise the face on this one is actually a very pleasant red-metallic. I've read many reviews of these in the past and have not had any issues with losing or gaining time, whether I have been working in the yard while wearing it, or under even light-wear circumstances. The Hardlex crystal has not scratched even when the bezel has. It looks great and works just as well as the others. So, I'll be adding this one to the rotation for certain!
