Like mechanical and quartz, Kinetic is a platform. Over the past 20 years, SEIKO has created on this platform a suite of Kinetic movements, each bringing unique features to the consumer.

It was at the 1986 Basel Fair that SEIKO unveiled its first Kinetic prototype. Introduced under the trial name of 'AGM', it was the first watch in the world to convert kinetic movement into electrical energy. It was the first step in a development that, 20 years later, has made Kinetic synonymous with environmental friendliness, high performance and long-lasting convenience to a generation of users worldwide. From the launch in 1988 of the first commercially available watch (then under the new name AGS) until today, over eight million Kinetic watches have been sold (as of 2007).

In 1998, Kinetic Auto Relay was released, extending the 'at-rest' operating period of the watch to a remarkable 4 years. 1999 saw the launch of the Ultimate Kinetic Chronograph, a masterpiece which fused the very best of SEIKO's mechanical and electronic watch making skills, and in 2003 another Kinetic Chronograph was launched. At Baselworld 2005, the Kinetic Perpetual made its first appearance, combining Kinetic convenience and longevity with a perpetual calendar, correct to the year 2100. In 2007, SEIKO's emotional technology Kinetic Direct Drive is introduced.

I decided to purchase this model after my last Seiko which was a battery operated perpetual: I found out the cost to replace the battery and have the perpetual calendar "re-calibrated" was 70$ after 5 years.

I am hoping this Arctura kinetic perpetual technology will be maintenance free for the next 10-14 years at least. The watch is slightly bigger than I expected and certainly has a solid feel (aka can feel heavy at times...may be the stainless steel bracelet).

However, its looks highly elegant, and most importantly, the technology inside is unbeatable.

I ordered this watch from Amazon with high hopes and it did not let me down! I ordered this watch only seeing the picture off Amazon and the Seiko website. While the pictures may look good, the watch in reality and on your arm looks GREAT. My girlfriend could not be more satisfied with my choice.

The overall look and feel of this watch is excellent. The look is not only elegant and classy but the bracelet design also screams fun and young. The bracelet feels comfortable around the wrist. However, like the other customer noted, the watch can feel heavy to those not use to a larger sized watch.

The watches features are unbeatable! A kinetic watch that doesn't need a battery change along with a perpetual calendar is excellent for those who are looking for a hassle free timepiece. Setting the time and date was easy and only took minutes including a bracelet length adjustment.

I have refrained from purchasing a bracelet style watch for a long time because I think many of them look old fashioned, but I personally think otherwise for the design of this Seiko watch. Although it has been out for a little while, it still feels years ahead of its time in terms of style and features.

Great buy, especially if you get it from Amazon for the price and free shipping. A must have for someone looking to own a nice watch for the first time or even the veterans who love to own excellent watches.

I had a Seiko, dont remember the model, but is was a perpetual autorelay that i bought back in 98, it served me perfectly until it got stolen from my home in august 2007, I was looking for something simular and found the SNP009 here on Amazon. I got my watch in early September, free shipping and delivered without any problems, the watch came preset for EST with date and year allso correctly preset, I set the time to CST and it has been running ever since, it is a bit heavy to begin with, but after a couple of weeks you get used to it, I use it every day and as I travel a lot to different time zones I have to ajust it back and force several times a month, the perpetual function is a marvel I never have to ajust the date, just the time when traveling. I forgot the watch at home one time, after 3 days I came back and I just shook it a little, and there it was, showing correct time and date. I'm impressed.
As the watch is big it's nothing for a small arm.
