I wanted a 100% titanium band but could not find one this season with the right combination of finish and features, so I got this one because I assumed the TiCN coating would at least be hard and durable. I have to report, however, that after only one week, there is already visible wear where the band touches the desk while using my keyboard. In fact, the underlying stainless is already visible on three of the links. So, nice looking watch (it's much blacker than the pictures show, by the way) but if you are looking for the hardness and wear resistance properties of titanium as a feature, you should probably keep looking.

Nice watch, highly recommended. Purchased one in April 2009 to augment my 2004 titanium day/date kinetic- a watch no longer offered by Seiko. The capacitor in the kinetic had croaked after five years of heavy use, I wanted to pick up a solid battery watch that wold be appropriate in a business or casual setting. The perpetual black ion is a nice compliment. The black ion finish is glossier than it appears in online ads, however the overall effect is still rich and subdued. The gloss finish will probably dull to a more satin-like finish over time. The black ion watch is steel, therefore much heavier than the titanium kinetic. The steel black ion must also be taken off for most airport screening, the titanium can stay on your wrist and go through without triggering the detectors. In general, I prefer the titanium kinetic's functionality, but will use the perpetual black ion for business and more formal attire. As Seiko timepieces, both watches keep perfect time.

Bought this watch for $250 a few years back. Loved the design and color, and wanted to keep it for more dressed up occasions. Wasn't too excited about the perpetual calendar (the more complicated something is, the more potential for failure). Well my instinct was smarter than my appeal for it. Date indicator got hung up between "25" and "26", and despite following all the directions (given in the cheesy booklet and on the internet) ... Absolutely Nothing! The watch handles still worked (it kept time), but having the date always as "25 1/2" just didn't sit right.

Brought it in to the shop where purchased and they sent it out for a repair estimate. They wanted $150 dollars to fix the stuck perpetual date. Way too much!! Got it back. Date still stuck, but now the tiime doesn't work either. This watch is a wristful of crap. It isn't even carried on the Seiko site any more. Buy it and gamble. I see now that the price is down to $95. Wonder why? Becasue Seiko knows it is a piece of crap and they are trying to get a quarter on the dollar for producing them.

I bought this watch in 2002. In Febrary 2007, the watch's calendar went out of sync. I have taken the watch to 3 different authorized Seiko Jewelers to have fixed. The battery has been replaced twice. The last Jeweler contacted Seiko and learned the perpetual calendar mechanisn has a defect. Seiko knows about the defect and offers no fix, refund or any kind of resolution. They just said "too bad". I will never buy another Seiko.

I love this watch and this is my second. Looks good, easy to read and very accurate. I check it against an atomic lock once a month and it's never off by more than a few seconds. The battery in the first one lasted over four years. When it starts moving the second hand two seconds at a time you only have a few days to get a new battery in and that has to be done quickly or the perpetual calendar resets to Genesis. It's not a big deal to set it as long as you follow the instructions in the manual (that's what the button at two o'clock does).

The only negative is both the finish and "Hardlex" dial window are somewhat subject to scratches and wear but I'm very hard on watches. I replaced the battery in the old one, went through the reset the calendar drill and wear it unless I'm going someplace where it would embarrass my wife.

I bought this watch for my boyfriend for Christmas and he loved it! It looks even better in person than online and looks even better on my boyfriend. I couldn't have picked a better watch. The only problem we had was trying to change the perpetual calendar. We ended up just winding the hands around and around until the calendar got to the right date. The nice thing about this watch is that you can change the band size without having to take it to a jeweler. If you're looking for an expensive looking dress watch that doesn't cost you an arm and a leg, than I highly recommend this one.

My husband likes to wear a lot of black and I knew he would really like the looks of this watch. However, it was replacing a previous purchase of the exact item. I have been disappointed with the quality, as the watch barely lasted a year and there is
no one who can repair it. You have to send it back to the manufacturer and they charge you an hefty upfront fee. I hope this
    one lasts longer.

The info was slightly misleading in as much as I thought the watch was completly Titanium. Once the watch arrived I liked it very much, and I am very pleased with my purchase.
