Very nice watch - Quality w/Sporty flair, January 26, 2010
This review is from: Seiko Men's SPC003 Sportura Retrograde Chronograph Watch (Watch)
I tried finding this model at many local shops, jewelry stores, department stores, EVERYWHERE, but I just couldn't find it to simply try on and see if I liked it. After looking at many photos of this watch on line and here at Amazon, plus reading carefully the measurements I took a chance (after reading the seller's Return Policy [Luxi.com]) and purchased this watch - I had a pretty good feeling it was going to be what I wanted.
Well, I wasn't disappointed. This is my first ever Seiko-brand watch, and I must say that I am impressed. It is extremely well made with quality components that by merely glancing at the case, one can immediately tell that this is no ordinary Timex or Casio. I would even go as far as saying that is comparable to my Victorinox Swiss Army watch (an EXCELLENT WATCH!).
One of the main selling points for me was the fact it comes with a Sapphire crystal; this ensures that it will probably NEVER receive a scratch from a passing blow here or there. The chronometer function works very well and smoothly; it's very easy to work, and with minimal reading from the instruction manual you can easily adjust its hands (resetting to 'zero', for example).
Finally, I like the style of the watch. Of course, this is subjective - everyone has their own preferences in a watch. If you are looking for a modern, stylish, and sporty, but not "suit-style" watch, then this one is for you.
Why did I give a "4 out of 5 stars"? Well, in most of the pictures I saw, it seemed to me that the case was Stainless Steel (which is what I was looking for). However, once I received it, it turns out that parts of it are Stainless Steel, but mostly polished chrome. This means that it is easily susceptible to fingerprints and smudges. I have to continually wipe it with my polishing cloth. I guess I suffer of a bit of OCD, though :)
Of note, I have rather small/thin wrists, which is always an issue for me because it limits what I can buy (I originally wanted another Victorinox Swiss Army watch of a particular model, but it was just too large for my wrists). The Sportura by Seiko fits perfectly, and looks just right, on my wrists. What's more, it is quite light!
I hope this has been helpful :)

Jewel-like, February 2, 2008

Beautiful. It catches the light well. Great band...it's pre-curved almost like a woman's bracelet and the latch & holes are slotted (unique). Eye-catching split-second hands whir like you've never seen before! Each watch hand perfectly aligns with every second and minute marking. However! It takes more than a casual glance to determine what time it is. The white hour and minute hands seem to blend into the rest of the many white indices. Your eye is immediately drawn to the chronograph's red second hand or the other red hand instead of to the white hands which tell the time. This is not a major issue. The chronograph is precise and has pause/unpause & lap functions. The small seconds sub-dial DOES stop so you can sync your watch to an atomic clock.

Nice watch, February 8, 2009
This review is from: Seiko Men's SPC003 Sportura Retrograde Chronograph Watch (Watch)
I love the styling of this watch. But as others have said it takes getting used to the actually telling time with it. The face is very busy with minute markers and mulitple hands for various purposes. But once I got used to it, it became pretty easy. I've got small wrists and the strap doesn't fit as well as I'd like. The point of attachment is stiffened by, I'm assuming, metal inside the band. So it doesn't form as well as I would have wished to my wrist. But all in all a great watch.
