I would recommend this to friends and family members.

The gold tone watch would be BEAUTIFUL if the gold tone was "muted" or had a Florentine finish, instead it is VERY shinny.

Just the right size and very clean looking as well as a sexy masculine.

The Seiko Men's SSC145 Solar watch is by far the finest watch I own. First, it is heavy which I love, and it looks smart... Much like it is made from Titanium. I'm sort of a collector of Seiko watches and I wear this one more than ANY of my others. I also purchased the same watch in a "Gold" tone, but the gold finish is a little too flashy. The gold tone watch would be BEAUTIFUL if the gold tone was "muted" or had a Florentine finish, instead it is VERY shinny. But the dark gray/black finish on the SSC145 is a beautiful watch you will be proud to own. The only disadvantage it has is the "Date" window, which is black with "white" numerals, which for myself and my eyesight are impossible to see. But everything else about the watch makes up for it.

I have upgraded from my Kinetic watch from more than 15 years ago; it functions but is off 1-2 minutes everyday for a few weeks. So after reading all the reviews of the Seiko watches, this SSC145 caught my eye. I originally looked into a white bezel chronograph with a brown leather strap: I very much prefer the TAG Heuer Carrera but my budge isn't $5000. The quality of the picture displays black poorly. When I compare my watch to this picture, the bracelet is not grey, but stainless black with the sides of the bracelet matte black.

A better quality image is the one Amazon has on the SSC009 Black Dial: http://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SSC009-Black-Flight-Watch/dp/B005I2KDTS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1390124534&sr=8-2&keywords=seiko+145. Although the bracelet is now silver, the black is more true to real life; the picture of the SSC009's inner dial isn't off black: it is true black on an angle which reflected the light awkwardly.

This SSC145 looks much better in person and am very pleased with the quality. Heavy by feel, not flashy but sleek, the black doesn't attract much attention and that's how I like it.

Flaws for the ultra detailed, I started noticing the smaller dials.
    1. Seconds dial (9 o'clock position). The hand is directly on top of indicators until the hand reaches 22-23 second marker and is slightly off/early until the 46-47 second marker.
    2. Chronograph minutes dial (12 o'clock position). The chronograph seconds hand (small red hand) is positioned slightly off centered to the left. It is not perfectly centered at the 0/60 minute marker but a fraction off. However the chronograph seconds hand (large red hand)is directly centered at the noon position.

Absolutely great watch. I am a big fan of Seiko watches and own several. This is one of my favorites. Nice alternative to a gold or silver tone dress watch without being clunky like a lot of the new style watches out there.

Good looking watch, no battery change...you just have to keep it in lighted area to maintain charge. But I'm satisfied and recommend this watch. 5 stars

It is a good watch. I am somewhat satisfied with my purchase. I am troubled with the stems that are used to set the various functions. They protrude approx. 1/6 to 1/8 of an inch depending which stem is being used. If you are not careful they will catch with a shirt cuff and stop the watch movement from working until, it is pushed back in and reset. I consider this my lack of thoroughly investigating the watch before purchase. It does keep good time I have not attempted all the functions. I was surprised the stems do not lock-I assumed they would and did not read the specs close enough.

First, I have to say I bought this watch because I like the way it looks, rather than intending to actually use the "pilot" functions. I've had it about 2 weeks, and it does look great in person. The slide rule stuff on the bezel is cool. That said, the inner ring slide rule numbers are too small for me to use (63 yo eyes). I'd rarely use that feature, but it would have been a plus. The alarm is not very loud. I did discover that the alarm seems to come from the back of the watch, so it's muffled by contact with the wrist. It is definitely louder when taken off. If it was sitting on a nightstand nearby, it would probably be enough to wake me up (I'm a light sleeper). Also note, the alarm can be used only once in a 12 hour period. Not an issue for me, but it was important to know when testing it out.

If not for the alarm and small numbers, I would have given it 5 stars. This is my first solar watch, and it has not gained or lost a second in 2 weeks, per radio time signal. It was running as soon as I took it out of the box. The bracelet seems well made and very secure. I ordered a watch tool for about $3.50, and used it to easily remove 2 links. Now, it fits great. This is going to become my every day watch.

I love this thing more and more every time I wear it. Totally classic in both feel and look. I had a little bit of a problem with the knob pulling out too easily at first(thus stopping the time), but it only happened with one pair of pants. I wasn't sure who to blame, the people who made the pants or the people who made the watch. It seemed to stiffen up a little since, though, so I can save the blame for the women and children for whatever dumb s*** they do next.
