I bought a pair of these movements to rehabilitate two of my vintage 1960s starburst clocks. The original hands on those clocks are fairly heavy gauge brass, and the standard clock movements from the craft shop had problems maintaining torque and keeping correct time when pulling the hands uphill. These movements have been installed and running now for a couple months and have kept perfect time.

The only slight word of caution is that the battery compartment is slightly fragile. For some reason, there is a cut-out slot behind the place where the AA battery sits (visible in the stock photo). This makes the bottom part of the movement's case weak. I accidentally cracked one while applying only moderate pressure in the process of installing it. It was easy enough to repair with some epoxy, but in order to avoid breaking yours, handle it delicately!

UPDATE (02/10/2015): These movements are still keeping excellent time in the clocks I installed them in nearly a year ago.

I have an antique wall clock with hands that are atleast 6 inches long. I didn't realize that those long hands would take a larger torque than a cheap clock movement could provide. Once the old motor stopped, I went through 4 or 5 different clock motors trying to revive my clock. They all burned out in a very short period of time. I bought this high torque movement and my antique clock is restored and running just fine.

After finding that the mechanism was indeed made by Seiko (via the internet), I used the product and have been satisfied with it. The seller should state that while it doesn't appear on the mechanism, the product was made by a subsidiary of Seiko.

I installed this movement over a year ago and it is still working as expected.

I looked for a long time to find a clock movement to keep time accurately with my large wall clock. The clock uses a 17" hour hand, and its heavy by most standards. This movement keeps time perfectly and steady all the way around unlike others that would fail between 4 and 7 O'Clock.

Nice unit and it's quiet. I barely got it installed on my Splat Clock because the threaded shaft was a little short. It would have been nice if the product description mentioned the length of the threaded shaft and maybe some other options with regards to shaft length. Straight Contemporary hands would have been nice also.

I had this same movement on a Seiko wall clock I bought about 10 years ago. It would gain approx. 2 minutes/month, but since I had other clocks in the den, it wasn't a problem - just reset it whenever a visitor said 'your clock's wrong'. A few months ago, after my wife called for a den redesign and the other clocks were removed, it became an issue. After missing the start of some favorite TV shows, an edict was issued: "Fix the clock or replace it". Since I paid too much for it at a jewelry store, it had to stay, so here I am. I've never had a clock with this kind of movement gain/lose so much time before, so will be interested in seeing how well the replacement does. Will update later if problems continue.

Remember, no one wants to know what time it is. They just want to know how much time is left. That's why analog clocks tend to be more popular than digital - except they lack the 'cool' factor.

Update on 10/18/14.
After having the new movement working for about 2 weeks, I can report that unlike the original movement which gained about 2 minutes/month, this one has lost 6 minutes, extrapolated to about 12 minutes/month. Unfortunately, I threw caution to the winds and disposed of the original movement. I'll return this one to Amazon and try again - through Amazon. There's one thing I like about this movement, compared to the old one. The second hand rotates smoothly, where the old one 'jerked' from second to second.

2nd update on 11/20/14.
I failed to return the item within the 30 day limit. My bad. So I set it aside, and recently looked at it again.
Close examination showed the spindle the hands mount on was not perpendicular to the back mounting face of the movement.

Item was shipped in plastic bag. Hands were bent terribly. I searched every word printed on it and it does not say Seiko anywhere.
Other than that, super quiet. You can only hear it if you press the unit to your ear.
Good instructions. Most items like this don't tell you anything. These instructions were clear and easy.
Time will tell (Ha ha!) If it's accurate or lasts. I will update review as needed. For now, 4 stars for shoddy packaging.

It's very quiet which is why I purchased and delivers as advertised when functioning. It also fits the standard clock sizes, unfortunately it worked for a while and stopped. I'm going to try another brand and keep fingers crossed.
