This review is from: Seiko Women's SXDB46 Two-Tone Blue Dial Dress Watch (Watch)
I'd like to preface this by saying I'm a 20 something who still finds a watch a necessity. I know most people find them to be obsolete and mere fashion accessories this day, but I think that's nuts. Who wants to have to constantly be digging a phone out of your pocket? Anyway, I also like second hands, and no I'm not a nurse (which is what every single store asks when I say I want to look at watches with second hands). But, since I wear my watch 23.75 hrs a day and expect it to last 5-10 years, I want good quality.
I spent several months looking around for a watch (even on a trip to Japan which is where many fine brands, including Seiko are made) and finally bought this one because I preferred the look to what I found in stores and because, hey, the price was right. I bought this to replace an older watch that was getting scratched up (previous watch was a Pulsar which is the cheaper "sport" brand by Seiko, but I still used it 7 years. Previous watch before that was a Seiko that I got in 4th grade from my parents.) I very much like the blue face (attractive and easy to read) with the two-tone band (goes well with gold or silver jewelry) so I looked around Amazon and settled on this one. Most of the features I liked about it you can see...to my mind it was very attractive looking, I like the date feature, and I suspected from the feature it had glow in the dark paint(it does). That was one of the things I missed most about my older Seiko was the ability to read it at night (this isn't indiglo...no actual light source). The latch is really nice...nicer than any I've had, actually, although I have seen it on newer watches. Easy to operate, very good connection. Can't speak to how it'll last through the years, yet, but hopefully. The retention band is nice too so if it ever comes undone it's less likely to leave your wrist. Brushed metallic silver and shiny gold makes for a really nice look. The only real complaint I had with it was that it was bigger (wider, bigger faced) than I expected as I had gotten used to a more delicate look with my last watch. However, as there is a picture with a ruler available above, I'm going to chalk this up to my fault. I considered if I wanted it anyway, and decided that it was a nice enough watch that I really did and would probably quickly get used to the size (I already am). It doesn't feel exceptionally heavy on the wrist at least. Other thing to consider (that is true for any nice watches you might buy from Amazon)...unless your wrist is quite large, you may need to have some links removed. This watch doesn't have any tricks...it's the standard pin style, but unless you have the proper tool, you could scratch the band doing it yourself. Most stores will only freely adjust bands on watches you bought from them and will charge you $10-$20 otherwise. Shop around though...I found a very nice jeweler willing to do it for free.

This watch is exactly as described by Amber (I thank her for all the details), which means it's exactly what I wanted. I bought it to replace a similar-looking Pulsar watch (blue dial and all) that had served me well for some 25 years and therefore had full confidence in the Seiko/Pulsar brand. I didn't even look at anything else. At first glance the face looked bigger than on my old watch, but a side-by-side comparison showed they were the same. I think it's just the bold radiating hour markers (instead of numerals) that make this one look bigger. And that's a plus for an older lady whose eyesight isn't quite as sharp as it used to be. The bright gold markers on the dark background make this watch really easy to read. Except for the bezel, all the silver on this watch is a brushed finish, and all the gold is shiny finish. I did end up going to a jeweler to have a couple of links removed from the band, but I like a fairly snug fit and I have a small wrist.
