Gorgeous ladies watch!,
This review is from: Seiko Women's SYMC21 Seiko 5 Automatic Silver Dial Stainless Steel Watch (Watch)
Given three watches to choose from (2 Invicta & this Seiko), my husband chose this Seiko for my birthday present. It arrived today in the mail and is more beautiful in person than online! I absolutely love the red second hand and the blue SAT and SUN. A previous reviewer wrote that the watch was "so small" but I beg to differ. This is an appropriate size watch for a lady. I am an athletic individual and I have a New Balance watch that meets those needs. However, for a watch that I can both dress up and dress down, the Seiko 5 meets my needs. The second hand moves so smoothly and the weight of the watch is perfect. It took me about 10 minutes to set the watch accurately- not a very tedious process. I'll be taking it to our jeweler this week to have a few of the links removed to fit my wrist. This is by far an excellent watch at a superb price. Thank you Seiko, thank you Amazon and most of all, thank you sweetie! Happy Birthday to me!UPDATE: I had my watch sized today and the jeweler told me for this type of watch (self-winding/mechanical), if it sits for a day or two I should turn the crown, 30-40 times before wearing. This ensures the watch will not lose minutes, as a previous reviewer noted. I just wanted to share this info with anyone considering buying a self winding watch or this particular watch.

This is a good value for the watch. It is a little difficult to set the time/day/date, but once I got it set correctly, it has worked like a charm. It is a little heavy, but feels very comfortable.

Not as described!,

I'm not sure I would have purchased this watch had I known that, although described as "water resistant to 30m" in fact the instruction book says it's "designed and manufactured to withstand...accidental contact with splashes of water or rain, but it is not designed for wearing while swimming or diving." In fact, the definition of 30m in watch technologese means "occasional splashes" not 30 meters, which is what I had assumed. If I were to do it again, I'd look for a watch with dark hands. The white/silver face plus the light hands can be hard to see even in broad daylight. If I can find a similar watch that is more waterproof and has dark hands, I will return this one.

Can't figure out how to size myself,

This review is from: Seiko Women's SYMC21 Seiko 5 Automatic Silver Dial Stainless Steel Watch (Watch)
I bought this watch because I'm somewhat of a shut-in and didn't want to be bothered with keeping up with watch batteries. However, so far it looks like I'll have to go out to a jeweler to get this sized - there's no pin holes on the sides of the band like many of the DIY band sizing videos show - but there's arrows on the inside of the band like is shown. I've sent an email to Seiko customer service to see if they can provide me with instructions, since there's none I've found except to go to a jeweler. I'd prefer to buy tools and do it myself though because my weight has been fluctuating and I'd like to be able to adjust the watch band accordingly myself. Other than that it's an attractive watch, although a bit hard to read and to set, as to getting the stem pulled out. I think I'll be fine with it, but letting others know who may be a bit more challenged visually and manually. I think I'll be happy with it if I can get past this band sizing issue... UPDATE: I received a response from Seiko customer service after about 3 days that gave a link to their authorized dealers and just reiterated instructions to take it in to be sized. Strictly corporate response. :b

I've had this watch for several years and although it is very attractive it has not performed very well for me. It's a shame because not only was this a gift and of high sentimental value, I also am disappointed that the Seiko brand would not hold their products and name to a higher standard. This apparently wasn't a fluke or just a "lemon" as I even purchased a second watch to replace this one and experienced nearly identical issues. It looses time daily; sometimes seconds, sometimes minutes. With constant wear, by the end of a week it has lost an average of fifteen minutes. The dial has lost part of the detail work - twice. The little raised rectangles that mark the time in numbers have fallen off and gotten stuck in the hands. I've had this fixed twice but since it hasn't kept reliable time either it now spend more time in a drawer than on my wrist. Unfortunately I'm not able to recommend this watch due to the issues/experience above. I hope others have a better experience with this brand/watch.

Overall, the watch works well for the intended usage and with a fair price. Setting the day/date is a little bit complicated without the instruction sheet to guide you.

I'm pretty happy with this watch. It is heavy, but I've gotten used to it so it doesn't bother me. I really love the red accents and the second hand. I also love the illuminated dials. It's a quality watch, and I've had no problems with it.For the people who complained about the watch not working, or getting slow... did you read the directions? For automatics, you need to swing the watch back and forth for a number of minutes before setting it to get the mechanism working. I did this and I have had no problems with my watch stopping or slowing. A great watch! :)
