This review is from: Sekenre:: The Book of the Sorcerer (Paperback)
This is a sequel to Sekenre: mask of the sorcerer.
Both books are wonderful to read and read again. This one here is a series of short stories following the adventures of everybodies favorite all-powerful sorcerer who is still stuck within a 15 year old boys body and lives within a fantasy world based upon ancient Egypt complete with it's own rich mythology. Well, he just may be the only all-powerful sorcerer fitting that description. This collection is designed to stand-alone, you do not need to read 'the mask of' first, but it wouldn't hurt.
I discovered Sekenre in the pages of wierd tales, back in the late 90's.
The story was the one about a giant whose name was Vorviades, or something similiar. I spent years wandering, who wrote that story, what was it's name....certain poetic images and feeling stuck with me, but I could not for the life of me remember. What a joy, years later, tracking this down. I was not at all dissappointed and the imagery is still in my mind as much as ever.
Just recently ordered more books by Darrell Schweitzer, the Shattered Goddess and another one. I very much look forward to reading those and I heartily recommend the Sekrenre tales to anyone who could do with some fantasy, some magic and some beautiful writing.
