I love this CD set. It is every bit as good as their 15th anniversary set. These guys are a national treasure. My favourites are Satan's jewelled crown and Pictures from life's other side. Usually live recordings are a bit of a flop with me. These guys do great live recordings.I love John Starling in particular, but they are all great players and/or singers. Fantastic music. This is a labour of love. These guys would sing and play for their supper

I must admit, Im new to Seldom Scene this year. I first heard them on Sirius radio singing The Small Exception of Me in October 2012 and was hooked.I came on line to Amazon and saw the album line up and not one review had less than 4 stars, most were all 5 star.

I therefore bought my first album, Live at the Cellar Door and for the most part is was pretty darned good. After about 6 or 7 runs on the car stereo, I found myself listening to about 5 songs repeatedly and skipping over the rest. ( Thats how I listen to CDs. If the song doesn't hit my hot button for repeat replay, I blow it off and move on.) So, it wasnt so bad finding 5 great songs, and maybe 5 ok songs out of 23 songs. This album by the way has some girl who screams her lungs out at the end of each song and after a while you begin to hate her. Today I would give that album a 3.5.

I therfore jumped back into the fray and went for a second album and bought Different Roads. What can I say. Its perfect. A 5 all the way. Great vocals ( and I lean toward the slow songs with great vocals from Duffy and Starling ). I dont skip one song when Im tooling along in the car.

So I needed more and bought this album.

Much as I hate to say it...its a two. Perhaps its the witty repartee live and on stage, or the voice of someone I have not heard on the previous two albums that bums me out..Eldridge maybe...but I skipped my way much too fast through this album of 28 songs and suspect I will end up with maybe 6 or 7 that make me want to hit the repeat button. I wont take up space on the 5 CD player for this low ratio of songs that I like or dont like, that I can play over and over.

For all you bluegrass aficionados out there, this CD is the culmination of the always professional Seldom Scene in their anniversary concert. They were all together then, John Duffy was alive, and this concert is awesome. I bought it for my dad for Father's Day and he plays bluegrass; he gives it two thumbs up!
I think it is a great addition to anyone's bluegrass library, with great renditions of older songs and some new ones to boot. Highly worth purchasing.

I knew when I ordered this product it was what I wanted. It is of The Seldom Scene in their prime and with past and future members. I have the vinyl. I'm very happy with my purchase.

Many moons ago I saw these boys at Roger Brown's in Portsmouth VA and bought this album at the t-shirt stand. I really did wear it out from playing it so much and had to buy another one! It is quite simply brilliant through and through. Goodly amounts of traditional mixed in with old gospel favorites with plenty of picking n grinning. I like to play it at max volume on my Harley Ultra Classic to compete with the boom boom boom next to me. :-)

Seriously, if you like blue grass, you need to have this in your collection. "In the Pines" is sweet and sorrowful at the same time. Special guest Emmylou Harris sings "Satan's Jeweled Crown" to a perfect accompaniment. The harmonies in "Were you there when they crucified my Lord" and many of the others will turn your CD player green. By far one of my favorite live albums.

The Seldom Scene were the best Bluegrass group in the middle states for many years. The few Gospel songs they threw in really made the mix stand out. Every player was a star, still is.
