4.0 out of 5 stars It's attractive and very cool to the touch. But don't break the liner!!!!!
I use a crock pot 3 to 5 days a week and this pot has been great. I travel with it usually 3 days a week so the bag has been very useful. (Always use two hands and do not swing!) I discovered that you must criss-cross the straps inside or the lid may fall into the pot and spill. You should know that the pot cooks on high for 1-6 hours or high for 7-10 hours. The level...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Exactly "Programmable", March 16, 2005
This review is from: Select Brands SC-60 Corningware 6-Quart Programmable Slow Cooker, White (Kitchen)
All told, this seemed well made and had many extras packed in with it (silicone cookware, insulated carrier, etc.). I've been searching for a genuinely programmable crockpot for ages - this isn't it. The temp setting is determined by the number of hours you set, so if you're thinking I want a pot where I can choose high temp for X hours then switch to low for Y hours - good luck. You can't do that with this model nor the "programmable" pots from Rival, All-Clad or Kenmore. I've purchased and returned them all as unsatisfactory for my needs (all I want to do is set 2 hours at high then 16 at low for making my chicken stock - this is apparently the Crock-Pot equivalent of putting a man on Mars- no one can do it today).

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware, outer shell, may melt!!!!, March 22, 2006

This review is from: Select Brands SC-60 Corningware 6-Quart Programmable Slow Cooker, White (Kitchen)
I recently purchased this product. The first time I used it, I thought it worked great. I made a pot of chili and let it cook until we were ready to eat it that night. The second time I used it, things were not as good. The outer shell where the controls are were literally melting. I had programmed this to cook for 10 hours while I went to work. I came home that night and the hours had not changed. I realized I didn't click the on/off button to start heating the cooker. This may have saved a house fire. I went ahead and changed the time from 10 to 4 hours. This set the unit to high instead of the original low setting. Not 15 minutes after turning on, the outer covering was melting. I immediately shut it off. I see the 4 quart units were recalled back in 2004 for similar issues. Whatever their problem, it has not been fixed. Be aware of this serious problem when using your slow cooker. I am returning mine and will exchange for a different brand.

The level and time are not independent of each other. It has cooked well with no surprises. I recently broke the liner and was able to replace it for a reasonable price through Select Brands. The pot is not associated with Corningware and they are completely unable to assist with any questions or further customer service. I would give it a five, if I could select time and temperature independently. It is also a large pot which is great but it means that I keep a 3 quart pot for just meat dishes because a slow cooker must always be at least half full.

Update: After not receiving replacement liner, I find out they are on backorder and the card I had on file has expired. I reorder a liner and am charged $10 more for the liner than quoted. I received the liner today and the lid is way too small. The ridge on the liner is narrower than before. Pot is still completely useless. Am very aggravated. (I would take stars away but it won't let me.)

Update: They replaced the liner and lid which still don't fit together great. I have to cook on high for the food to cook.

2.0 out of 5 stars What a disappointment!, February 17, 2006

I have searched for the perfect crock pot for some time now. This isn't it! The main problem I am having is that it just doesn't want to actually cook the food! The first dish I made was beef stew. The recipe book said 4.5 - 5 hours on high. I reset after 5 hours and at 9 hours, it still wasn't cooked, the potatoes and carrots were quite hard. Next I tried a cake in the provided loaf pan. It never cooked in the center even after doubling the time. I made chili two days later. Same deal, it never came to a simmer, even though I added all the ingredients HOT! This morning I decided to try soup. Again I put the ingredients in hot, boiling actually, now, three hours later on high setting it hasn't even started to simmer. As for it being programable, it's not. The heat setting is automatically set according to the amount of time programed. 1-5 hours and it sets at high, however nothing cooks in that amount of time on high! So, you actually have to be home to reset the time! Defeats the purpose of a crock pot. This thing redefines slow cooker! Be prepared to finish dishes in another pot on the stove.

4.0 out of 5 stars corningware slow cooker does a good job, February 27, 2006

I found that the cooker has a slightly higher temperature than most, so things cooked faster than I had planned. The special feature of being able to set the # of hours for slow cooking is more of a nusiance than a benefit. I wish , instead, that there was a feature that would start off a dish for a few hours at high and then switch to low automatically.
After programming the time, tho, the temperature drops just enough to keep the food warm without cooking further when the time is up.
A nice bonus is the rubber counter mat that sits under the cooker. It keeps the counter cool and also gives the cooker stability, so it doesn't slide off the counter.
I have not used the additional gadgets like the silicone pan that came with it. I can either cook meatloaf in the oven or in the microwave much more easily and see no advantage to cooking it in the crockpot. I expect to use the rack, though at some point.
I like the oval shape as large turkey breasts or whole chicken will fit in nicely.

Does not appear to get hot enough on high. Wattage I don't think is sufficient. Carry case very good etc., looks good, top to pot does not fit well and it spits all the time. Overall, I would not buy one again

Impressed with this slow cooker. I especially like the rubber trivet that goes underneath the unit as it does get quite warm and the nylon carrying case. Biggest problem is that above 4 hours you can ONLY cook on low heat and below 4 hours ONLY on high. Would be nice to be able to adjust the temperature/timing.

After 18 years it was time to upgrade my tiny crock pot (even though it still worked)! With a family of five AND work this "programmable" crock pot is a life saver. My days of cooking like a maniac when I get home from work are OVER! The first time I used it I did not program it properly...but my husband saved the day! The second time I didn't have enough food in the pot. Now that I have worked the kinks...I am in love! I can't believe I tortured myself for so many years. No need to eat out or upset myself when I get home. It makes me happy to walk through the door and spend time with the family....not the stove!

What a pleasure to have a clean corningware crockpot instead of an earthenware crockpot (that only discolors and shows cracks over time). Don't hesitate to buy this high quality slow cooker. Instructions are easy to follow and cleanup is a snap.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nice bonuses; bad performance, November 20, 2007
This review is from: Select Brands SC-60 Corningware 6-Quart Programmable Slow Cooker, White (Kitchen)
I REALLY wanted to like this thing, because the carry-bag is great, the rack and loaf pan terrific, the outer shell cool, etc. My first effort was the banana bread recipe which came with the cooker. After 2 hours on High, as instructed in the recipe, it wasn't even close to done. I wound up cooking this bread for something like 9 hours. The bottom was overdone, and the top was still slightly raw. It's such a drag now to box the thing up and return it!!!
