5.0 out of 5 stars Revised Reggae Done Right
Blood and Fire is a roots reggae label out of England. This record takes some great reggae tracks from their stable (a compilation of the original tracks was also released). Those tracks get munged up as the label hands the tracks to modern folks for a remix (for example, Smith & Mighty are legendary in the Gilles Peterson-style dance/acid jazz scene). It's not reggae...

1.0 out of 5 stars An Utter Abomination; Be Warned!!!
This is the absolute WORST reggae album that I have ever purchased. I hesitate to even call this "reggae" at all. It seems that the plague of genetic engineering has filtered into my favorite genre and as a result we get this horrid Frankenstien of an album. This is a greater violation of natural law than when Mansanto put arctic flounder genes into its prototype tomato...

5.0 out of 5 stars Revised Reggae Done Right, December 12, 2005

Blood and Fire is a roots reggae label out of England. This record takes some great reggae tracks from their stable (a compilation of the original tracks was also released). Those tracks get munged up as the label hands the tracks to modern folks for a remix (for example, Smith & Mighty are legendary in the Gilles Peterson-style dance/acid jazz scene). It's not reggae per se, but it does follow the dub tradition updated to today.

Every track is good, unlike most comps.

The album is a reissue; the original came out ca. 1999. I originally bought it when it came out and wound up buying it for friends more than once. I keep it in high rotation even now. Worth checking out.

4.0 out of 5 stars David--You're wrong!, November 21, 2001

As a rebuttal to David from Seattle's review as this being the WORST reggae album he has ever heard: This is NOT a reggae album. If you want reggae, check out the original Blood and Fire issue CD's from which elements were taken to produce this album. Nuff said.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heavy old-school dub rubbed in a new-shcool dope bath!, September 21, 2000
This review is from: Select Cuts From Blood & Fire (Audio CD)
This is a find! Select Cuts from Blood and Fire is the ultimate remix compilation of new-school DJs remixing the great dub of the past. If you are a reggae and or dub fan then this cd is a must. On this cd you will hear the great roots rock vocals like that of Cedrick Myton of the congos, Horrace Andy and Yabby You over FAT beats spanning new-school generas from trip-hop to jungle to house/trance. The best thing is that for the most part the DJs did not destroy old classics but were very discerning and only made the dub Fatter and more jucy. I can't wait for blood and fire to do a project like this again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Finally!, May 19, 2003

It's about time they get it right. Updated and modern reggae dub remixes that are true to the roots. Not sped up and devoid of groove like Jungle and not watered down to become boring lounge music. This electronic reggae hybrid works, without stripping the soul from the original music. Vols. 1 and 2 are very good, pretty groovin stuff. (I haven't heard vol 3. but it looks good. David from Seattle is an idiot who needs to retake Reggae 101.)
