THE SELECT,
By Kevin "spiralcity" (Chicago, U.S.A) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Select (Paperback)
THE SELECTF. Paul Wilson covers more ground than any writer I have had the pleasure to read; Sci-Fi, Horror, Thrillers, Medical Mysteries (Mr. Wilson also practices medicine) and his very popular Repairman Jack series which happens to cover all of the areas previously mentioned. The Select is a medical mystery about a top-notch medical school, which only selects the best of the best to be added to its alumni. The school, which seems to be every aspiring doctors dream actually becomes a nightmare for three friends chosen to test for entry exams. The school hides a huge secret and will stop at nothing to keep their activity quiet. I highly recommend this book. I feel this is one of Mr. Wilson's best efforts. I wish he would write more books in this genre but he claims he has nothing left to say in this field and he doesn't want to be repetitive.

Encapsulates the reader into subliminal entrapment!,

This review is from: The Select (Paperback)
F. Paul Wilson delivers in this explosive medical thriller as only he can. From the very first page I could NOT put this one down. I was entranced without feeling bombarded by psychotic jargon. The plot begins simplisticly with Quinn and Tim previewing, then entering, the most prestigious medical school in the world offering a free ride to "the select" would-be doctors but finding that The Inghram is a bit more than just that. There is no denying the sense of the horrific, potential realism of this storyline. What a tribute from a brilliant writer!

I read this book quite awhile ago but never wrote a review for it. I can't recommend this one enough! I still remember it quite well even though I read it 2 years ago. This is one of the best medical thrillers I've ever read. I could not stop turning the pages to find out what would happen to these characters. You won't regret reading this one.

The kind of book Robin Cook wishes he could write.,

This review is from: The Select (Paperback)
A unique (read the book and find out why) student at a prestigious and ultra-elite medical school begins to suspect that it has darker motives than its public facade of philanthropy. Dark Fantasy writer, creator of the Adversary Cycle, and practicing MD F. Paul Wilson surpasses medical thriller novelist Robin Cook's entire output with seeming little effort. Not once does the book seem unbelievable. I give it my highest recommendation.

A BOOK that HITS the BULL'S EYE!,
By G. A. (Some American territory!) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Select (Paperback)
From cover to cover F.Paul Wilson's explosive bestseller THE SELECT was so easy to imagine without kindergarten vocabulary. For a first time in a long time, no novel has kept me literally "hooked" to discovering what will happen next. It's full of mystery and suspense. Very thought-provoking, yet easy to understand. I highly recommend it. I may even look more into his other works! Thank you Wilson! -- By the way, is there a film on this book?

One of the best works of fiction I have ever read.,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Select (Paperback)
The mere possibility of the events depicted in F. Paul Wilson's book 'The Select' makes one of the best, and scariest, books I have ever read. The book is written with knowledge that could only come from a man with first-hand experience in the medical profession. This novel is a page-turner from the beginning. It picks you up and sweeps you away, leaving you soaked long after you've finished. Wilson does not clog the pages with medical mumbo-jumbo that would leave the seasoned reader confused, but delights your senses with clever innuendoes and metaphors. This is a must-read for fans of medical thrillers.

I liked the book okay but I feel it is a lot of fear mongering about the big bad government wanting to limit healthcare. What the book doesn't say or cover is how the insurance companies are dictating health care or how much pharmaceutical companies spend on advertising as opposed to the research and development the industry claims. Much of research and development of drugs is paid for with taxpayers money. The story is pretty good and the writing is fine but we are left with a lot of questions unanswered at the end.

I first read this book in 7th grade and loved it. Since then, nearly 15 years later, I have read it countless times. It remains one of the best and most memorable books I have ever read. The fascinating medical topic and character development will keep you turning the page, and stay with you long after you finish. In fact, even though I can see it on my bookshelf, I might just buy it again to have on my Kindle! You will not be disappointed with this book and it will be one that you keep reaching for.
