My wife and I purchased Select Surfaces laminate flooring in the Sandalwood color [...] and had it installed last week. Overall, we are both very happy with the flooring and total cost of the project.

PRICE
We picked up boxes of this flooring at our local wholesale store and paid around $26-$27 a box. Each box covers just over 16 square feet in area. The wholesale store also sold trim / moulding kits for $15 which included (2) t-mouldings, (1) end cap, (1) reducer, and all hardware for installation of the mouldings. The price for the floor worked out to be around $1.63 a square foot which is GREAT compared to the price of laminate flooring at Home Depot or other home stores.

QUALITY
The floor planks are 14.2mm in thickness (including the back padding). This is great because it provided us with a nice transition to our tiled surfaces and did not cause too much of a trip hazard. Plus, the quality of laminate flooring is all about thickness. Value flooring is around 8mm and quality flooring is around 10mm-12mm. What I liked about this flooring was the thick surface coating. The edges are beveled slightly so that the joints are just barely felt when the floor is assembled. Out of the 27 boxes we purchased, only around 5-10 planks were damaged. Of those, only 3 were damaged with scratched surface coating. The others were just damaged beneath in the padding or on the sides which you can work with. The mouldings, however, appeared to be manufactured incorrectly in that they did not fit securely into the track which is provided with the kit. We had to dig the mouldings out deeper with a utility knife to make them sit snug in the tracking. Still - it wasn't a deal breaker.

I usually avoid doing reviews but after seeing a poor review for this product I have to.I am a professional home builder in Georgia. The product is among the best laminates you can buy for looks durability and longevity. My home now has this floor on about a thousand square feet covering living room two closets and two hallways. It took me and a friend( no experience) eight hours to do. With proper experience this floor falls in the upper middle for ease of install and at the top for quality. Many people use pergo and other heavily marketed floors and in the end all they did was spend more on less quality. I constantly follow products on the market and you won't find a comparable until you get to the five dollar a foot range.

I have installed many SF of laminate. This is the most difficult to install. Yes it's thick, yes looks great ( most do) the attached backing is nice however laying pad is not a big deal. I installed this in 3 bedroom 4 closets and a large hall. The price was important , the thickness is a distraction. I have since helped lay 500 SF of Allen & Roth (Lowes), far better flooring. Price a bit more much better product.
Pros: looks great, tight water-resistant fit. Great price per SF,inexpensive trim package
Cons: a pain to "click together " many planks had to be forced and too much damage due to tight fit. Of the rooms 2 were very square and easier to install . If your room is not level and square, or you have more than a couple doorways or room transitions you should look elsewhere

This is really good quality flooring for the price. You can purchase it for around $29 a box at Sams Club. It takes some learning to figure out how to lay it. The first row or two are difficult to get clicked together but after you get going it goes pretty fast. I wouldn't say it's a novice do-it-yourself type of project. There is some fiddling you need to do and a lot of hammering to get it all locked together. A friend of mine had this installed over a year ago and it's still like brand new with no scratches or issues whatsoever. I'm expecting the same type of service life out of it.

I love the looks of this flooring, everybody that has seen it ask if its real wood. We have concrete floors that aren't that level and many doorways and it went pretty smooth. The secret it taking your time and not getting into a hurry. We have 2 cats and it does well with animals. Have had it down about a year, with minimal scratches that can easily be covered with marker. Overall, for the price and looks I give it 5 stars.

My husband and I installed this flooring in our heavily used family room 3 years ago and it has held up beautifully. We have a large German Shepherd and 3 kids, and this room opens up to our backyard so it can get muddy. It is the most used room in our house and this floor still looks new. In fact, I'm looking at purchasing more for another room in our house. It's not the easiest thing to install but not too difficult either- an Armstrong laminate we laid at our last house was MUCH more difficult to install than this. Don't hesitate to buy this product- it's beautiful and durable.
